The Menorca region

Menorca is the second largest and most easterly of the Balearic Islands. It is regarded as quieter and less developed than its neighbours, Majorca and Ibiza. Due to its temperate climate it is a very green island with an abundance of colourful wild flowers, particularly earlier in the season. It is a relatively flat island which means walking and cycling are a pleasurable experience the whole family can enjoy.

Much of Menorca's beautiful coastline, particularly to the North, is a marine park. There are some 120+ beaches, with golden sands and crystal clear waters. Despite their popularity, it is still not difficult to get away from the crowds and find a space of your own to relax and enjoy the sunshine.

Menorca's colourful history means there are many archaeological and historical attractions to visit, all of which are easily accessible.

For shopping and superb eating, Mahon and the ancient former capital, Ciutadella, with their narrow atmospheric streets, one-off shops and colourful marketplace stalls, should not be missed. Mahon has first class restaurants lining the quayside offering a fine mix of Spanish and Catalonian dishes. A stroll into the old town will provide ample opportunity to search out traditional souvenirs, the freshest seafood from the fish market and local cheeses and gin from the indoor market next to the church. Equally rewarding for fine dining are the harbours at Es Castell and Fornells.

In order to get the most from your holiday, car hire is recommended, but Menorca's size means that you can travel from one end of the island to the other in about an hour. No attraction is too far away (and the children don't have time to complain about being "stuck in the car")!

Addaya / Addaia area

Addaia is an ideal holiday destination for families and couples alike. Set on the north coast, away from the larger hotels and developments found in the south, it is a small, quieter than most, development set around a picturesque harbour from which diving and fishing are possible.

The villa is just a 5 minute walk from the two local shops and 4 or 5 bars and restaurants. There is a tennis court available for hire and internet access is available locally. A 15 minute drive into Alaior offers more comprehensive shopping and banking facilities.

There are numerous safe, sandy beaches nearby. The nearest main beach is just a 5 minute drive away at Arenal with its clear, shallow waters and golden sands making it ideal for children. Son Parc, with its beautiful white sand dunes and turquoise waters is a couple of kilometres further on.

Diving in the area is superb and there are excellent dive centres in Addaia itself and nearby Fornells, both offering a full range of courses for all levels.

Facilities for horseriding, cycling, windsurfing and dinghy sailing are within easy reach and there are several yacht and boat charter companies on the island.

Son Parc golf course is a 10 minute drive away. The 18 hole course is bordered on one side by the Wetlands Nature Reserve. It is a great course for beginners and experts alike.

Many of the local towns and villages have their annual fiestas during the Summer months; the parades are not to be missed. Pick up a Menorca guide from the airport when you arrive for the dates.

How to get there

During the Summer months there are regular charter and budget flights from all major UK airports. Usually the earlier a booking is made, the better the price quoted.
Ferries sail into Mahon harbour from the Spanish mainland.
Taxis are always available outside the airport, and cost approximately 30 euros into Addaia.
Car hire is however recommended. There are numerous car hire companies on the Island and indeed on the internet. We are able to arrange generous discounts for our guests upon request.
