About the home
Sympathetically restored and modernised farmhouse on edge of village. It is bathed in sunlight and is quiet & peaceful. Large size rooms. Extensive covered portico surrounds the house on three sides. There is one restaurant a short walk away and many truly excellent restaurants offering fantastic value for money in the villages and nearby spa town of Acqui Terme.
The house should appeal to wine and food lovers and those wanting to be off the beaten track yet go somewhere that is easily accessible to all amenities. The village is in the heart of the wine and truffle growing district of Piedmont. Vineyards abound and most local producers are willing to let you taste and buy directly from them.
The house is set in its own 4 hectares of land - garden fields and oak wood leading steeply down to the Bormida River through an oak wood along a largely unused footpath. There is evidence of truffles in the autumn.
The Ligurian coast and beaches are readily accessible in less than 1 hour.
Skiing near Cuneo is also about 1 hour away.

If you are looking for a warm atmosphere with spacious rooms, delightful views and a perfect setting, La Cavallina is for you. We visited in late March and were blessed with warm sunny days. Each day began with coffee and fresh bread on the terrace as we planned our daily outing. Leaving the terrace proved to be one of the most difficult decisions of the day! Our trips took us to vineyards, small mountain towns, Acqui Terme and Asti. One of our favorite adventures was simply to walk to Montebone (quite a walk) and visit the small grocery for cheese, fresh bread and wine. Then, we were off to the local restaurant for evening reservations. All of the restaurants that were recommended by Alistair were as described. They each offered their own definition of wonderful. We took daily walks to Terzo and the surrounding area. We enjoyed the country atmosphere, the vineyards just beginning to show signs of life and the amazing views. The house itself is a delight. Large and spacious with a generous living area complete with fireplace, a dining room with fireplace and 3 en-suite bedrooms. The kitchen was more than adequate-actually there are two kitchen areas and plenty of dishes, utensils and cutlery. There is a TV although we did not use it, lots of DVDs and an i-pod dock. We would turn on our i-pod, open the doors and sip wine looking at the hills. Peace and comfort abound while you are close enough to wonderful day trips to the mountains and the beaches. Alistair offers a complete booklet of recommendations for trips, shopping, hiking and eating. In addition, there are good instructions for the home as well as people to call if you have problems (we didn't). We found this guide very helpful and followed many of the ideas for day trips. My husband and I have rented many homes and apartments in Italy. La Cavallina is the by far the best. We will certainly return. |
