Because of its relative remoteness, it has managed to preserve its unspoilt beauty and still has a very relaxing, laid back ambience. The scenery is spectacular by any standards and the Minnaun Hights, the highest cliffs in Europe are about ten minutes drive away. There are many fine beaches and recreational facilities no more than 20 minutes drive away including, watersports, fishing, kite surfing, golfing and cycling paths, and walks. Achill also hosts many art galleries, festival and retaurants.
