The North Wales / Snowdonia / Gwynedd region

Croeso (welcome) to North Wales.

North Wales is the northernmost region of Wales which is bordered to the East by England and to the South by Mid Wales.

This stunning region (most of which has been designated as an Area of Outstanding Beauty) is made up by the Island of Anglesey, the Llyn Peninsula, the Snowdonia Mountain range and region and the meandering
Rivers Conwy, Clwyd and Dee. The breathtaking scenery in this region is mostly made up of mountains, valleys and coastline.

North Wales has long been a popular destination with holidaymakers and it is easy to see why. With a wealth of tourist attractions that include Stately homes, majestic Castles, fun Family Parks, museums, arts and crafts galleries and shops and even a steam train coupled with the breathtaking natural areas such as the Snowdonia Mountain range, there is something to suit any type of holidaymaker.

You can visit the many charming towns and villages or take a day trip over to Anglesey to explore the Island. There is a vast array of shops, bars, clubs and restaurants in the North Wales area that will cater to everyone’s taste. For those of you that love walking then a trip to the Snowdonia National Park is a must.

Abersoch area

Abersoch village is located on the south east side of the Llyn Peninsula and although relatively small, Abersoch is perfectly formed and an excellent destination for any type of holidaymaker.

Situated between 2 headlands Abersoch bay has amazing views of St. Tudwal’s island and the vast sweeping mountain range of Snowdonia. The village itself is well serviced by shops, restaurants, typical Welsh pubs and even a bar or two.

Abersoch is the perfect destination for those who love the water and enjoy miles of safe sandy beaches. There are numerous watersports activities on offer for those that enjoy a more energetic holiday.

Snowdonia National Park and other local attractions such as stately homes and museums are easily accessible from Abersoch and make great days out for the family. Other activities available include pony trekking, archery, mountain biking, walking or golf.

The Llyn Peninsula is one of the most scenic parts of Wales and arguably the prettiest too. Designated as an “area of outstanding natural beauty” and Heritage coast it is an ideal area for many outdoor activities with an array of cliff top pathways for walking along the rugged coastline. For surfing enthusiasts venture down to Porth Neigwl (Hell’s Mouth Bay) or Porth Oer (Whistling Sands) with boating and water sports in abundance to suit all tastes with the Yachting Marina at Pwllheli and the South Caernarfonshire Yacht Club on the headland at Abersoch. Sea Fishing is available from many of the beaches and coves with daily trips in season from Pwllheli marina and Abersoch out to the deep waters of Cardigan Bay. There are three challenging 18 hole golf courses Abersoch, Nefyn and Pwllheli - all set in idyllic surroundings or go further afield to Criccieth, Porthmadog and Harlech (St David’s).

Visit the National Trust Attractions at Plas yn Rhiw or Ty Newydd on Anglesey, Castles at Criccieth, Caernarfon, Harlech and Beaumaris. Ynys Enlli (Bardsey Island) – take a ferry across from Aberdaron, a former fishing village which was traditionally the last port of call for pilgrims to Bardsey – a tranquil retreat. The quaint villages of Beddgelert and Betws y Coed are well worth a visit. Take days out – on the award winning Ffestiniog Railway from Porthmadog, Llechwedd Slate Caverns, Portmeirion, the Italianate Village or a trip to Snowdon on the Mountain Railway (or for the more energetic, by foot!)
