Sgubor Madrun holiday cottage, which translated means the Barn, is where the straw and feed were stored for the past 250 years. It has recently been restored to a luxurious holiday accommodation with as much of the original features left visible as possible. The cottage has a children's play area, a games room and Porth Neigwl's 3 mile long sandy beach is just over 1/2 a mile away.

The front access and rear to this cottage is level and suitable for the less mobile including wheel chair. It opens directly into a spacious open plan lounge / dining / kitchen area. Part of the original slate flagstone floor has been re-laid in the kitchen / dining area and some walls have been retained as exposed stone, all adding to the warmth and character of the accommodation. Its large front opening is now fully glazed and gives wonderful views of the countryside and a spacious airy atmosphere to the cottage. The ground floor has the benefit of under floor heating.

The kitchen is fully equipped with high quality appliances and a comprehensive range of cutlery and glasses. The five star quality is continued in the lounge area. Large comfortable leather sofas and soft cushions all add to the home from home ambience. There is a new plasma TV wall mounted, DVD, CD/radio.

A beautiful staircase, crafted by a local carpenter, leads up to a gallery style first floor area with two bedrooms that has a pitched ceiling and two velux windows that afford a wonderful view of the countryside. One bedroom has an antique double bed with canopy and en-suite, the second bedroom with three single cream iron bedsteads. The main bathroom is also on this floor with Jaquzzi.

The Gwynedd region

Snowdonia, North Wales offers the biggest, boldest mountains in Wales and England and is one of the most ancient and hauntingly beautiful areas in Europe.

Snowdonia welcomes visitors to a breathtaking natural environment, with Snowdonia National Park at its heart and much, much more. People have lived, worked and thrived on this Celtic land for more than 5000 years. Their legacy is a land which will fascinate the visitor with its rich opportunities for adventure, activity and discovery, its fascinating history and its ancient, musical language and culture.

Snowdonia is also close to a magnificent coastline of sandy beaches, spectacular cliffs and glorious estuaries along the west and north coast. Find out how you can make the most of your self-catering cottage holiday in Snowdonia, North Wales...

Abersoch

Sgubor Madrun holiday cottage is situated on a working farm in a beautiful location on the Lleyn Peninsula. Just over ½ a mile away from Porth Neigwl (Hell's Mouth) beach, popular with surfers, and Abersoch (3 miles), which is well known for water sports activities. Several other sandy beaches, coves and rock pools are also within a few miles of Sgubor Madrun cottage.

The picturesque village of Llangian with Post Office/shop and a 6th Century Church lies a mile away. Llanengan village has a fine medieval church and a country pub (delicious grub!) one and a half miles away. Both villages have a telephone kiosk.

The Lleyn Peninsula, where the Welsh language and way of life still flourish, is renowned for its beautiful beaches and water sport. With nearly 100 miles of stunning coastline, an array of hills of varying height inland plus the majestic mountains of Snowdonia on your doorstep, it's also a great place to come for a walking holiday.

Take a boat trip to Bardsey Island, a former site of religious pilgrimage, try your hand at fishing, horse-riding or golf and enjoy go-karting, ten-pin bowling, archery etc at Glasfryn Parc. Plas Glyn-y-Weddw, a magnificent Manor with galleries, beautiful gardens and tea room with sea views is well worth a visit, whilst Ffestiniog Railway, castles and the Italian village of Portmeirion are all nearby.
