The Powys / Brecon Beacons / Monmouthshire region
Famous for its choirs, stunning mountain ranges and beautiful valleys, this wonderful country has something for everyone. Snowdonia National Park, situated in North Wales, boasts breathtaking mountain scenery, crystal clear lakes and cascading waterfalls. Climb Snowdon, which at 1085m is Wales’ highest mountain, or travel to the summit in style on the charming Mountain Railway.
Alternatively, why not sample the beautiful green valley of Llangollen by steam train or from a leisurely horse-drawn canal boat. In July, the annual Llangollen Eisteddfod transforms the town into a unique centre of international music and dance, attracting musicians and singers from across the globe. You could also explore the beautiful coastline, safe sandy beaches and watersports of the Lleyn Peninsula, as well as Colwyn Bay, historic Conwy, Victorian Llandudno or the Isle of Anglesey on the north coast.
To the south, there’s the lovely Brecon Beacons National Park, a haven of rugged moorland, forests and mountains that’s just perfect for nature lovers and walkers. Finally, the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is renowned for its wildlife, stunning coastal scenery, superb beaches and as the home of Britain’s smallest city, the City of St David’s.
The Abergavenny / Gilwern area
The picturesque village of Gilwern, situated amidst the Brecon Beacons National Park, offers visitors many amenities including traditional pubs, shops and a great fish and chip shop. Covering approximately 520 square miles, the National Park surrounds the village providing excellent walking, cycling and bird watching as well as great salmon and trout fishing on the river Usk. Abergavenny, the aptly named "Gateway to Wales" is nestled in the nearby hills and has something for everyone. With its many indoor and outdoor markets, magnificent castle and museums this medieval market town is sure to delight any visitor. Offering fantastic walks for all abilities as well as its own vineyard, the nearby mountain of Sugarloaf is well worth visiting. No matter what time of year, this wonderful little village has something in the area to suit all tastes and budgets.

Guestbook for 2553 - The Coach House
Apart from the natural beauty of the countryside, the convenience of being near to every facility ie. good shops, lovely pubs and places to eat. On top of that the Coach House felt like home. Nothing pretentious, but cosy and comfortable. The landlady is charming and very welcoming.

,Very comfortable accommodation and welcoming host. Ideal as a base for walking in the Beacons and Black Mountains.

,We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Coach House where we received a warm welcome. The house is a perfect base for exploring the Brecons and close enough to South Wales to do a beech trip. Our city children loved running around in the massive back garden. The house was perfectly equipped and above all, nice and clean. We plan to return next year.

,The character of the building was fabulous, loved the open fire and the layout. The views were great, and the location was excellent - near Abergavenny, walking distance to Gilwern, but very quiet and peaceful. Our hostess was very welcoming, and we really enjoyed our stay.
