Welcome to Bryn Yr Haul...
This wonderful house, set at the southern end of the Brecon Beacons National Park, offers the perfect base for a family holiday, a short break or just a weekend away from it all.
It is perfect for all the family, including your pets.
This bright and airy house has 5 large bedrooms, all with huge picture windows that let in loads of light all year around.
The master bedroom has a king sized bed, 2 easy chairs, its own television and two large windows looking out onto the amazing scenery. It has its own, separate dressing room with plenty of wardrobes and a dressing table with mirror over. It also has its own shower room with shower, toilet and wash hand basin. The baby's cot is usually kept in here too, but this is easily moved.
There are three further rooms with double beds all with their own special attractions. One has its own ensuite shower room, another has a stunning walk-in wardrobe while the third has a range of beautifully crafted fitted bedroom furniture.
The fifth bedroom has five single beds - ideal for the children all to sleep in the same room - or whatever yougsters do on a sleepover!
Downstairs, the main lounge has super-comfy sofas, a couple of leather reading chairs, TV and DVD player with a selection of DVDs for all the family, a wood burner to gather around, two huge windows to let in the sun, and patio doors out onto the terrace overlooking the garden.
The dining room features the dining table that seats twelve comfortably, a dresser, another wood burner and another massive window, overlooking the garden.
The third lounge - "the Cwtch" - is home to two more sofas, one of which folds out to provide another double bed, the CD player/radio and the router for the free wi-fi access. There is a selection of cd's - hope you find something you like! - and also some family favourite board games and playing cards. Throughout the house there is a wide selection of books for you to enjoy.
The modern kitchen is fully equipped with plenty of pots, pans, crockery and cutlery. Appliances include halogen hob, double oven, fridge, freezer, dishwashe and drinks cooler. There is plenty of cupboard space and work surface for the cooks amongst you.
For those early risers, there is also a kitchen table and chairs to enjoy that first cuppa of the day, gazing out over the garden.
The washing machine and tumble dryer and in the Utility Room, along with access to the ewashing lines and more of the garden.
Just off the impressive hall is the emergency loo for those not quite able to make it upstairs!
And hidden away, in the garage, is the games room featuring pool, darts, table football and air hockey as well as loads of playthings for our younger guests.
The whole house has a feel of space, light and freedom - plenty of space for everyone to be together but room enough also to be on your own to enjoy some peace and quiet.

Can't recommend this house enough...
We spent an unforgettable week in your comfortable house. A beautiful, enchanted landscape which takes your breath away.
The area is near a big number of tourist attractions and natural beauty for sightseeing! So a perfect place if you love both nature and culture.
A privilege to be able to spend a few quality days in what is nothing short of a "home from home". Very comfortable.
I would definitely recommend this and have rebooked to return in the summer...
What a wonderful property. We all had a super time.

The Powys/Brecon Beacons region
The southern end of the Brecon Beacons National Parl but also on the edge of industrial South Wales.
So you have country walking and cycling for all abilities, country activities such as fishing ( on the world famous Rivers Usk and Wye) and shooting all combined with the history of the coal and steel industries of South Wales, including Big Pit mining museum and the Iron Works in the World heritage Site of Blaenavon ( as seen on television programmes such as "Coal House" and "Time Team" And yet we are less than an hour from Wales' capital city, Cardiff with all the attractions of a modern city. Similarly, you can reach the renowned beaches of Swansea and the Mumbles in less than an hour.
Abergavenny is a small market town that was a key spot on the old drovers' paths. It has the usual suspects of national shopping chains as well as loads of interesting independent shops catering for all interests. There are loads of wonderful places to eat and drink - with Michelin-starred chefs, fine wines (we even have Sugar Loaf Vinetads here, producing beautiful wines), and plenty of local real ales within easy reach. And all this in stunning valleys scenery where you can see mountains, rolling hills and winding river valleys all from the same place - gloious
There are plenty of activities - sporting, tourism, historical - or just come and relax.

Thank you to everyone, not just for these kind words but for the wonderful comments in the Visitors' Book too. It is much appreciated by everyone at Bryn yr Haul, as was you having spent the last morning of your weekend away cleaning and tidying - a huge help, thank you
The card was but a little something - just wish it had brought more of a result! Hopefully, the relaxed atmosphere and comfort of the house meant that everyone was better equipped to face the rigours of the weekend.
It would be great to see you all again - and maybe you'll get the chance to see more of this beautiful part of heaven!
Thanks and regards

"Great for Get-togethers"
Bryn yr Haul is a comfortable and spacious house for a family get-together. Our party of ten enjoyed gathering for meals around the huge dining table, the large sofas in the lounge easily accommodate… More
Thank you once more for these wonderful comments - it is always much appreciated. Sometimes you love a place so much it is hard to see the problems with it, so it is great to have such positive feedback from all our visitors. Even where things haven't been quite perfect for our guests, the house wins over everyone.
It is hard, even with the help of a professional photographer, sometimes to describe adequately the airy, spacious atmosphere of the house. There is so much room to enjoy a quiet moment away from the madding crowd, to share time with the local wildlife, maybe even with a glass of your favourite tipple!
Yet, when it's time to be together - perhaps for that special celebration - the house is snug enough for everyone to be cosy and comfy.
Come and see for yourselves!

Thank you all for another marvellous review - it is great to know that all our efforts are worthwhile.
A couple of apologies - we hadn't noticed the lack of serving spoons ( probably because my mother just dished it up on the plate and I ate it!).
However we appreciate the feedback and have corrected that omission already.
As for the weather, you certainly drew the short straw but I have to confess I have not yet found the controls for the rain - but I shall keep looking!
You are right though, the garden is a wonderful place to sit out, enjoy the local wildlife, the stunning scenery and let the cares of the world fade away.
Thanks again everyone - if there is anything else you can suggest, please let us know - we want it to be perfect for when you caome back next time!

"Spacious, cosy and well located weekend getaway"
I spent my 25th birthday here with 11 friends and we all had a fantastic time. Plenty of room for everyone to park, spacious bedrooms, modern kitchen, large dining room, log-burning fires and games room meant this weekend was always going to be a success. I would recommend any large group to stay in a house such as this and I will definitely be returning in the future.
That's great that you had such a great time at the house and that it helped to make your birthday celebrations a time to remember.
It would be wonderful to see you all again - perhaps for longer next time so that you can really take in all that there is to do in this beautiful part of the world. Thanks and regards

"Spot on for a weekend in Wales"
Bryn Yr Haul was the perfect house for our group of nine to stay for the weekend. The location is beautiful and perfectly placed (about 10 mins from Abergavenny) for enjoying the incredible countryside and local pubs.
The owner, Mike, is a lovely man who was there to meet us when we arrived and had even stoked up the wood-burners so the house was toasty from the off. It was more than spacious for our needs and meticulously clean. In particular, the kitchen is well-equipped for catering for large numbers and the dining room sat everyone easily in style. The living room is very cosy and all the bedrooms are very comfortable and spacious. The games room is the cherry on top of the cake, and we spent hours playing darts, pool, air hockey, etc - a fantastic addition. It was a cold, rainy January weekend and so we were not able to use the terrace and garden, but it looks superb and would be great in the summer.
All in all, Bryn Yr Haul is fantastic. Highly highly recommend.
Great news that everyone enjoyed themselves so much. The setting and surrounding countryside are stunning and there is so much going on for everyone's taste - a great base for all sorts of activities.
And if you're looking just to get away from it all, you can do that here too - the house is well away from the hubbub of towns and main roads, but close enough for all amenities. There is plenty of space to be on your own and enjoy some quiet "you" time - especially in the Summer, sitting out on the terrace or in the mature gardens.
Thank you for your kind words and we hope to see you all again.

18 Dec 2013
My friends and I were having a little reunion as we hadn't seen each other since graduating university 6 months ago and this cottage was perfect. It's spacious, cosy, well furnished and we all commented after our first night about what an amazing night's sleep we'd had - It was so comfortable. The location is great too - feels slightly like the middle of nowhere and yet so close to pubs and shops. Would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone!
We're so glad that you all enjoyed yourselves at Bryn yr Haul. It is "in the country" a little bit but is just two minutes off the trunk road running across the Heads of the Valleys, with easy access to so many places of beauty and interest and close to all the usual amenities.
We haven't tried the beds ourselves yet - but if they keep getting this sort of praise, we might have to! We would both confess to dozing off on the sofas downstairs mind!
Thank you everyone and come back soon!

"Lovely birthday weekend"
Three generations of my family (ages ranging from 1-71) stayed here for a weekend for a joint birthday celebration. The house was perfect with plenty of room for us to spread out, the children were very impressed with the games room while the grown ups enjoyed the cosy sitting room with log burner and plenty of comfy sofas. The dining room, with another log burner, comfortably sat our 10 people and the large kitchen was satisfactorily equipped - though my son is a chef - and when I enquired about a large cafetiere Mike made sure there was one. The fruit, bread, butter, cheese and milk provided was a lovely welcoming touch and was much appreciated. Our dog was made as welcome as we all were with towels provided and the lovely garden to run around in. The location, though not an issue for us, is good, in a quiet rural location with a short drive to town and we did enjoy a walk to the local pub (about 2 miles). The only downside to the weekend was that Wales lost to Australia and Cardiff city lost to Arsenal but it couldn't have happened in a nicer more comfortable place!
Thank you for your kind words. We are glad that Bryn yr Haul provided a base for your birthday celebrations. It's good to know everyone was comfortable - except perhaps the poor chef! We try to provide everything you could want to make the house a "home from home", though we are always open to suggestions to improve the house.
The only exception to this is our ability to "arrange" the sports results, although apparently the powers that be don't like people trying to do that! I am comfortable though for Wales to join New Zealand as a rugby nation that really doesn't like the referee Wayne Barnes.
Thanks again - and maybe we'll see you all again next year?!

Thank you for your kind words. We are glad you all had a great time and that we didn't oversell what the house has to offer - either in the house facilities or all that there is to see and do around this area! It would be great to see you all again - and remember we aim to be family-friendly, so bring the children and pets along too next time!
