The Powys/Brecon Beacons region
The Brecon Beacons National Park is renowned for its unspoilt and varied landscape and we are proud of its status as an International Dark Sky Reserve. It is a wonderful place for walkers and cyclists. Lakes and rivers offer water-sports and fishing opportunities. History buffs will appreciate the chance to explore Neolithic standing stones, Iron Age hill forts, Roman ruins, Norman churches and castles and the beginnings of the Industrial Age at a World Heritage Site. The National Park is also home to Fforest Fawr, Wales' first European Geopark.
Explore the Welsh Marches, Offa's Dyke and the Wye Valley, the borderlands between England and Wales. Wonderful walking and beautiful scenery forming the backdrop to stunning ruins such as Tintern Abbey, perfect for a day out with friends and family.
Walk or cycle along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, stopping at a country pub for lunch along the way.
Visit the market town of Brecon, with its market, craft shops, the canal and Rivers Usk and Honddu or Hay-on-Wye, famous for its bookshops. Hereford Cathedral still houses the Mappa Mundi.
Explore the Black Mountains, Capel-y-Ffin, one of the smallest chapels in Wales. Discover Llanthony Priory, drawn and painted by Turner in a series of visits spanning over 30 years.
Horseriding, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, walking, cycling, climbing and fishing are just some of the activities on offer!
Abergavenny is known as a "Gateway to Wales". It is nestled between seven hills, with the River Gavenny to the east feeding the River Usk to the west. On Tuesday, Fridays and Saturdays the market hall is busy, filled with local produce and crafts, on Wednesdays there is a flea market, the farmers' market is on the 4th Thursday of the month and antiques fairs are usually held on the 3rd Sunday of the month.
There are many fairs and festivals through the year including the Fun Fair and the Steam Rally in May, the National Road Race Cycling Championships in June, the Carnival and the Shire Horse Show in July, the Festival of Abergavenny through July and August, the Abergavenny Food Festival, the Breakin' Out Music Festival and the Funfair in September and the Christmas Food and Drink Fair in December.
Not far away are the Crickhowell Walking Festival in March, the Hay Festival in May, the Green Man Festival and the Brecon Jazz Festival in August.
Abergavenny has a reputation as a foodie heaven, with its food festivals, restaurants, cafes and pubs, as well as butchers, grocers and delicatessens to inspire you after a day of activities or relaxation.
Closer to home you'll find our local church, St Teilo's, dating back to the 13th century and the Court Cupboard Craft Gallery, exhibiting and selling local artists' work and serving homemade cakes and refreshments.

"Wonderfully spacious, well thought out house!"
I couldn't recommend Brooklands enough - whether you are a large group of friends as we were or a group of families, it caters for everyone. Spacious, well kitted out, comfortable beds, clearly a lot of time and thought having gone into the refurb - all felt very fresh!! Massive garden with BBQ facilities, woodland and streams to explore. We caught the start of the spring weather so there wasn't the need for fires or log burners, but its all there should you need. Wonderfully spacious and comfortable throughout. Excellent location if you want to go and explore in the Brecons or are heading out for activities, and very simple to find. I will definitely be heading back there, incredibly good value for money. Thank you Sarah for all your emails and info prior to our arrival, the weekend was a roaring success!!
Thank you for this lovely review! Knowing that our guests enjoy Brooklands and the local area as we do makes it all worthwhile. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future.
