The cottage comprises two single rooms (one downstairs and one upstairs); two double rooms (both upstairs); family bathroom with bath and overbath electric shower (upstairs); separate W.C. (downstairs); dining kitchen; utility room; lounge with open fire; and living room with coal/wood burning stove.
The cottage is furnished to a high standard. Outside there is a gas BBQ. There are various pieces of outside furniture, including a fire pit and surround bench - ideal for toasted marshmallows! Inside, there are a selection of books, board games and DVDs. Terrestrial TV channels and freeview are available on the TV (NO Sky tv).
The cottage is along from Aberfoyle Main Street, although about a mile along from the village centre - so it makes for a relatively straightforward walk/cycle/drive. The cottage is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts, with many activities nearby, including outdoor activity centres, Go Ape, bike hire, water sport centres and many good walks. The cottage itself has fishing/boating rights for Loch Ard at the bottom of the driveway, across the road.

Heating: There is an open coal fire in one lounge, with a coal/wood burning stove in the other. All rooms in the cottage are provided with background heat from radiators linked to the the coal/wood burning stove. There are also some electric oil filled radiators to use if required. There is an electric heated towel rail in each toilet. There is an electric blanket on each bed should you wish to use it. You need them in our winters!
The water heating system is controlled by a timer. Normally you do not need to touch this. Instant electric shower upstairs is heated independently from the main coal/log fire system.The cottage is a REAL country cottage, so you may find rabbits and deer in the garden or the odd spider in the house! There is no gas in the cottage.
Please note that smoking is not permitted within the cottage, but you can smoke in the grounds.

The grounds outside the cottage are large and boundaries marked by wire fencing. The area is mainly grass and trees. The ground can be uneven so care must be taken when wandering around the grounds. Occasionally deer wander into the grounds from the nearby forest, mostly in the evening.
In extreme weather conditions you may have to park at Craigenveoch House and walk up the drive to the cottage (3 to 5 minute walk). The driveway up the side of Craigenveoch to get to the cottage is very narrow at one point (our transit van manages past though) so just go very SLOWLY.The drive is rather bumpy too.
Arrival time is anytime after 4pm and departure time is midday at the latest. This allows us approx 4 hours to ensure the cottage is clean for your arrival. Please respect the need for this.

The Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park region
Stirlingshire is ideally situated between Glasgow (to the West) and Edinburgh (to the East), as well as being known as 'the gateway to the Highlands' (to the North).
Stirlingshire is comprised of many towns and villages, and there are plenty of things to keep visitors busy. The region is rich with history, with many historical sites and attractions within easy driving distance. Visit www.historicscotland.co.uk for more information. Much of the surrounding countryside is very picturesque - ideal for the outdoor enthusiast. The City of Stirling is 20 miles away, which, as well as being a very historic place, (Wallace Monument and Stirling Castle, etc.) also has a large shopping mall, restaurants, cafes and bars.
Aberfoyle is within the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. The park consists of many hills and lochs, and the main attractions are scenery, walking, and wildlife. Lots going on around the area from music festivals to sheep shearing,visit www.visitscotland.co.uk for more information.
In Aberfoyle there are various shops, restaurants, and pubs. There are outdoor and watersport activity centres (many include rental) ForestHills, Go Ape, etc. The area is very popular with cyclists, walkers, anglers and water sports enthusiasts. Aberfoyle also has a golf course (Callander golf course is also nearby). There is a well stocked Co-Operative shop for all your needs and is open long hours every day. The shops, pubs, etc. in Aberfoyle are a five minute drive or around a 20 minute walk from the cottage.

"A wonderful week, in this charming cottage, within a stunning setting."
The cottage was perfect. Sitting beside one of the two open fires, with a good book and a wee dram, on a cold Scottish night, was the ideal wind down, after a days walking in this area's stunning countryside.
All that you would need to keep a group of family and friends fed and watered was available and clean. All the bedrooms were both cosy and warm but with ample space to ' swing the cat ' !
Waking up in the morning to find a family of feral goats roaming the gardens had my 23 year old daughter beside herself with delight, and would have taken the kid home with her, given half the chance.
The town of Aberfoyle is only a short drive down the road, where you can purchase all that you would require for your stay and was surprised to find that a taxi service is also available. After an evening in the pub, one doesn't mind forking out the £3.00 it cost, to ferry everyone back to the cottage, knowing that we could all enjoy the hospitality ; )
All in all, a memorable stay and one that I would like to repeat in the summer months.

Had a wounderful time in a lovely place and property, great location in a quite place, lovely for the dogs but with easy access to shop's and places to visit.
Great for relaxing in beautifull surroundings.

"A wonderful homely cottage"
Having just returned from our holiday, I felt I must leave a review of Ashling Cottage.From first booked we dealt with Margaret who was always very friendly & helpful.She sent us an excellent hand drawn map which we were able to find the cottage easily.Upon arrival we were pleasantly surprised at the size of the cottage.The kitchen is newly fitted & stocked with all appliances & equipment needed.There is even a washing machine in the Utility room.There are 2 sitting rooms, one with a flat screen TV, ideal for the Men to watch the football matches!!! & then a sitting room just off the kitchen to sit & read or even play board games which are available to use in the cottage.There are fireplaces in both rooms and coal,logs & kindling are available to make roaring log fires.
There is a single bed downstairs with a sink, adjacent to a downstairs loo ideal for a disabled or elderly family member.Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms, 1 is classed as a single bed but is actually a queen size so thinner younger family members could squeeze in together!! The main bedroom has a four poster bed & a sink( which is great when others are using the bathroom).All in all the cottage is well catered for and we had a wonderful time & would certainly stay there again.The price is very good value for money, so if anyone is unsure whether to book or not please do not hesitate,you will be pleasantly surprised as we were.

"Great cottage - ideal for a long weekend away"
My family and i stayed at the cottage in March for a long weekend for my birthday.
The cottage is gorgeous and has everything you need to make you feel at home. There is also a big gas BBQ and a fire pit - which was great.
Would definately recommend the cottage and will hopefully be booking up to go back later in the year.
