Weaver's Cottage
About the home
Weaver's Cottage is an award winning 3 bedroom cottage of great character situated on the banks of the Keltney Burn in the heart of Highland Perthshire, just 5 miles from the pretty town of Aberfeldy (shops, restaurants, hotels, river walks along the "Birks") and less than 3 miles from the historic village of Kenmore which is situated at one end of Loch Tay.
The bright and spacious accommodation is furnished and equipped to an exceptionally high standard including a stunning shower room with under floor heating. The delightful sitting room has a wood burning stove and deep, comfortable sofas, making it a cosy retreat for all seasons. The cottage has lovely views of the surrounding countryside and French doors leading to the garden through which runs the Keltney Burn.
The surrounding countryside is famed for its natural beauty. Not to be missed is the Fortingall Yew, at 5,000 years it is probably the oldest tree in Europe. Interestingly it was already ancient when the Romans came this way and legend has it that Fortingall was the birthplace of Pontius Pilate. The lovely conservation village of Kenmore lies just over 2 miles away at one end of Loch Tay (shop, pub, water sports, iron age settlement). At the other end of the loch the village of Killin (shops, hotels etc.) straddles the stunning Falls of Dochart. From Killin, Loch Lomond and Scotland's West Coast are within easy driving distance.
The area is ideal for numerous outdoor pursuits including fishing, golfing, walking, mountain biking and watersports (kayaking, rafting, canyoning). Low level, forest and mountain walks are virtually on the doorstep. Walkers can enjoy everything from level woodland strolls to the challenges of Glen Lyon (one of the loveliest of Scottish glens and teeming with wildlife, including the elusive capercaillie). Mountain bikers have Drummond Hill on the doorstep with miles of tracks whilst, for walkers, the famous nearby Schiehallion (one of many local Munros) can be reached within minutes.

I stayed in Waever's Cottage with my family over Christmas week, and we had such a lovely time. The cottage is spacious, modern and very clean & comfortable and is located in a beautiful setting, in fact I don't think the photos on Holiday Lettings do justice as the cottage is bigger than it looks in the photos. The cottage is very well equipped. As it was Christmas, we were baking and cooking a lot, and the cottage had everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable and there are 3 sofas so plenty of seating. The owner had provided a large Christmas tree which was lovely. The booking process was flawless as was arranging for the keys. The owner and caretaker were both very helpful. On arrival the mugs were laid out ready for our tea, as well as some lovely complimentary shortbread. The cottage has a lovely log burning fire and there were plenty of logs to start us off. When we needed more, we just did a quick run into Aberfeldy to the garage. The cottage is set in a rural location so a car is needed, but there is a nice pub/ restaurant at the Fortingall hotel just a few miles in one direction, while Kenmore is only 2 miles away and has shops, pubs and restaurants. Aberfeldy is just a 5 mile drive and has a co-op, bank, shops, garage, coffee shops etc. All in all we had a great time and would definitely stay here again. |
