Home description

Superbly located holiday home in Aberaeron on the coast of Cardigan Bay. 4 bedrooms sleeping a maximum of 7.

This house has probably the best view in Aberaeron and it has been purposely built to fully exploit its position on a hill overlooking the town. The unusual layout means that you enter, what appears to be a bungalow, on the first floor. As the house is built into the hill you then descend to the ground floor where you will be awestruck by the approx. 5m wide lounge window that gives panoramic views of the harbour and surrounding countryside. Outside there is a magnificent raised decking area also giving views of the harbour and countryside. On a clear day you can see the Llyn Peninsula and Snowdonia.

The West Wales / Pembrokeshire / Ceredigion region

Beautifully located on the Heritage Coast, Aberaeron is the ideal location to explore mid-Wales and Snowdonia. Inland, from Aberaeron, you may follow the Aeron valley, past Llanerchaeron Mansion - the restored National Trust property is open to the public (this is a very pleasant riverside walk accessible straight from the house). There is also a cycleway that leads from Aberaeron to Llanerchaeron. Superb walking area with access from the house to the newly opened Coastal Path at Aberaeron. From right outside the house you may access several footpaths to the coast or over the hills. Why not drive to New Quay where you may take a boat trip into Cardigan Bay to spot the famous pod of Bottlenose Dolphins. There are many superb beaches in the area and the Snowdonia National Park is only a short drive away. Ceredigion's Maritime Heritage Coast, the first marine conservation area of its kind in the UK, is just off-shore, from here, stretching down to Pembrokeshire's most northerly point,Cemaes Head, just below the Teifi Estuary at Cardigan. This Special Area of Conservation [SAC] designation was awarded due to the presence of important marine life in this part of Cardigan Bay, which requires protection. Cardigan Bay has important colonies of Bottlenose Dolphins, Atlantic Grey Seals and Harbour Porpoises, as well as a variety of sea-birds and rare choughs nesting on the cliff-tops. One of the best places to view all of these wonderful, wild creatures is Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park, located on the coast opposite Cardigan Island, at the sea-side resort of Gwbert, near Cardigan, just 20 miles south of Aberaeron.

It's not a question of what shall you do but more a dilemna of trying to fit everything in during your stay! You will always receive a warm Welsh welcome in this strongly Welsh-speaking area of Wales!

Aberaeron area

Aberaeron is one of Wales' very first "planned" towns, the idea of establishing a port at the Aeron's mouth having been the brainchild of a local cleric - the Reverend Alban Jones-Gwynne - in the nineteenth century. The town celebrated its bicentenery in 2007. Aberaeron's most striking feature is its architecture. One house in every four is listed either as being of special architectural or historical interest. The graciously designed town just invites you to walk around it and feast your eyes on the subtle differences between this house and the next, that street and the other.....

Aberaeron is a popular shopping centre for its surrounding countryside and also offers a selection of crafts and local produce at small shops within the town and at the Aberaeron Crafts Centre. There is also a Saturday Market in the Memorial Hall (5 minutes walk) where home-made cakes, jams, sausages, etc are sold.

There are many annual events such as the Food Festival, Rugby Sevens, Sailing Regatta, Carnival and Festival of Welsh Cobs.

There are numerous pubs, cafes and restaurants in the town. Why not have a drink sitting on the harbour wall outside the Harbourmaster while the kids fish for crabs.

The public swimming pool and leisure centre are 5 minutes walk from the house.
