A Guarda / Rosal area
The valley of O Rosal, between the ocean and the river Miño, is a piece of very beautiful land delimited by a mountain range to which it gives the shape of a scallop. It is placed between the councils of Santa María de Oia, in the tourist town of A Guarda and the wide land of Tomiño.
It has a mountain landscape and green field, half fluvial and half marine, with the Miño and Portugal in the distance. It is a farmland above all, and only in the coast it is mountainous and rugged. On its side you should visit the group of water mills of Fornelos and in its field the many transepts. But the most attractive thing is its landscape and its exquisite fruits.
Good Eating and Fun The fun is guaranteed at the numerous and varied festivals celebrated in O Rosal. Among the most important is the Carnival of Fornelos, with dazzling carriage parades and animal races. During Easter Week there are festivals in celebration of one of the region’s most renowned products: the prestigious O Rosal wine. In July the popular patrons’ festivals of Nuestra Señora del Pilar and Santiago are held. And in Eiras during August the Fiesta de la Solla (Plaice Festival) takes place, where you can taste this delicacy harvested from the Miño and sample all the different ways it is prepared.
