A Estrada / Tabeiros area
The villa is only five minutes from the bustling market town centre of "A Estrada", Casa Do Forno offers the luxury of being in the peaceful and picturesque setting of the mountains yet within minutes of the local attractions.
The A Estrada municipality boasts an abundant historical heritage including forts, cruceiros (carved stone crosses), Romanesque churches, and the manor houses scattered about the lands of the old Tabeirós. Among these manor houses, the most important is the showy Pazo de Oca, known for the splendid and carefully tended gardens that have given it the name Versailles of Galicia. The house has two floors, with large windows that open onto the gallery and look out over the gardens. It also has large rooms, paintings, and a characteristic Galician kitchen.
Sports and Nature Delicious salmon, eels, and trout can be caught in the rivers of A Estrada, not to mention tasted in the area’s restaurants, where they are exquisitely prepared for your dining pleasure. Fishing enthusiasts gather here every year at the town hall to participate in the International Salmon Fishing Contest held each May.
Museo do Pobo Estradense "Manuel Remóndez-Portela" Located in the old building of the municipal slaughterhouse, it occupies three buildings where a collection of some one hundred carpentry tools are exhibited, as well as personal keepsakes of Castelao, distinguished defender of Galician culture, and the reproduction of one classroom similar to those of the early 20th ct.
In 1916 it is born in A Estrada Manuel Reimóndez Portela who was mainly a doctor -a village doctor, he called himself in the title of one of his books- so that all his life activity and creation was, directly or indirectly, related with a vocation generously performed for more than fifty years.Reimóndez has been a doctor and a man of letters, a man who adapted synthesis as the motto of his life: -all knowledge is about man, all knowledge is for man-.From this receptive and vital attitude, appears in him the urgent call of historic, ethnographic, topographic and folk investigation that was reflected in different books. He has collaborated with the Centre of Tourist Initiatives and was given the Silver Medal for Tourist Merit. A man whose objective has always been the contribution to the spreading of culture, loved and tribute by his people. That is why his name was given to the "Museo do Pobo" ("Village´s Museum").
