The Galicia region

Galicia is a mountainous region of Spain with a rugged coastline combining high cliffs ( some of the highest

of Europe) with beautiful sand beaches.

In the 9th century, the rise of the cult of the Apostle James in Santiago de Compostela gave Galicia a particular symbolic importance among the Christians. As the Middle Ages went on, Santiago became a major pilgrim destination and the Way of Saint James a major pilgrim road.

Galicia has preserved some of its dense forests. The landscapes composed of green hills, cliffs and Rías are generally different from is commonly understood as Spanish landscape.

The climate is oceanic, the rainy days are quite often in winter.
