Home description
A two bedroom gite (one bedroom being a family room). It has a large living room which includes a kitchen area, off which is a private patio. The property adjoins the owners home so that the owners are on site if required. the property is relativly modern, and is very light with large patio doors leading from both the lounge and the family bedroom, giving views of the garden. The garden is an area of a little over an acre and is beautilly cultivated with many private corners for a peaceful read, sunbathing or even a quiet snooze! We have a field which can be used for family games, and there is ample car parking space.
We are set in a particularly lovely area, very close to the Foret D'Andaine, (walking distance) which is wonderful for walking, cycling or getting close to nature, there are deer in the forest (red, roe and fallow) wild boar, red squirrels and a huge variety of birds, small mammels and insects (especially butterflies of which there is a very good variety). In the autumn the forest is famous for its mushrooms!
On a practical level we are a five minute drive from a supermarket, or if you feel like a short walk the village store, which sells good bread and other basics is only 800 meters away. We are close to the towns of Domfront and Bagnole-de-L'Orne, two very different places but equally delightful.

The Normandy / Orne region
Lower Normandy is mainly a farming area. The bocage is a network of small fields surrounded by hedgerows, and everywhere you will see the pretty normandy cattle with their blotched colour, which look as though a child has painted them. These of course are responsible for the wonderful dairy produce of this area. This area also has strong links with Great Britain, not only because of the landing beaches and the memorials of the second World War, but going much further back to William the Conqueror whose castle at Falaise can be visited. The climate is similar to southern England, but just a little warmer and a little less wet!
Domfront / Perrou area
Domfront is a medieval town perched up high with amazing views overlooking the countryside. Its' old quarter is a maze of small roads and quaint alley-ways, with small shops and cafes. Every second summer Domfront puts on a spectacular medieval festival, the next is due in 2007. Also nearby is the spa town of Bagnole-de-L'Orne. Built around a lake it evoques 'La Belle Epoche' . Here you will find a racecourse and a casino, as well as many restaurants bars and shops. During the summer Bagnole has regular street entertainment and musical events. Perrou is a small village tucked right beside the wonderful Foret d'Andaine, this is perfect for those who enjoy walking cycling or watching wildlife.
How to get there
Cheap flights available from Stanstead and East Midlands to Dinard airport (about an hour and a half away), or travel by ferry to Caen (Brittany Ferries) also about an hour and a half, or take the cheaper ferry (LD lines) to Le Havre, which is about two hours drive.
