Home description
Castara Cottage is an open, natural style house overlooking the 2 beautiful bays of Castara. Just 1 minutes walk from both beaches and surrounded by rainforest covered hills, the house is divided into 3 self - contained, self - catering apartments and can sleep up to 11 people. A portable child cot is available on request. Each apartment has external patio decking, and all have their own entrance way, kitchen , and bathroom with hot water.
The upper and lower two bedroom apartments have large living / kitchen areas opening out to wooden decks with views of the sea and surrounding fruit trees. Exotic birds love to fly up to the breakfast table and a paw paw tree grows within arms reach. The bright and airy studio apartment has very large wooden shuttered windows which open up to offer a view of a splendid mango tree and a glimpse of the sea. The upper and studio apartments are interconnected and so can be opened up into a 3 bedroom apartment with 2 kitchens and bathrooms. This makes it very popular with sharing groups of friends and families with large families and teenagers.
Two of the apartments have outside decked areas, and all beds have large mosquito nets supported by wooden corner posts. Fans, sheets and towels are supplied and changed twice weekly. Please note that the apartments can be rented separately.
The rates for accommodation vary between $55 and $135 US per day depending on the apartment chosen. On request we could also arrange additional services, such as transportation to and from the airport, car hire, guides, and shopping for basic supplies if guests arrive late at night or on a Sunday.
Castara is a small fishing village with great snorkelling and a few local style restaurants and bars. The villagers are friendly and colourful and often offer musical events. There is a river and waterfall, good for swimming and plenty of rainforest walks, small bays and fishing trips to be enjoyed.
You’ll be surrounded by a tropical rainforest with exotic birds and fireflies at night. You'll be lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves, and won’t need air conditioning or TVs, as nature provides fresh pure breezes, bird song and fantastic views all day long. Bring your binoculars. The bird life and the night skies are incredible.
Castara Cottage has views of mountains and the surrounding rain forest covered hills, which cascade down to the sun drenched beaches of the northern and southern bays of Castara.
There's fine snorkeling on the beach at your doorstep - a coral reef lies within 100 meters of the shore.
Don't expect jet skis or water skiing or wind surfing - this is a fishing village. You can go on boat trips to fish, sightsee, or barbeque on isolated beaches ..... leave at dawn and come back with the setting sun.

The Tobago region
Thought to be Daniel Defoe's inspiration for his famous novel Robinson Crusoe, Tobago delights visitors with unspoiled beaches, roaring waterfalls, ancient rainforest full of chattering birds, and some of the best diving in the world.
Still quiet and relaxing, Tobago offers a range of accommodation from five star hotels to small guest houses set in the jungle. Activities can keep you as busy as you want to be. Boating, scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, windsurfing, birdwatching, fishing, hiking, tennis, golf, horseback riding, swimming, and relaxing on the beach are just a few ways to spend your days.
Rent a car and do some sightseeing around the 26-mile long island over bumpy roads, winding past palm groves, tiny hamlets and deserted beaches. A constant feast for the eyes; even the interior roads are only 15 minutes from glimpses of the sea. A route through the mountainous rainforest passes towering, creaking bamboo and dense jungly growth before suddenly giving way to views of a sparkling palm-fringed beaches, or open pastures grazed by cattle and scruffy goats. Any point on the island is only a few hours drive away and well worth the winding narrow roads you'll encounter. Year round temperature is about 27 degrees .
Castara area
Castara has two beautiful bays – Big Bay and Little Bay. There is an unspoiled reef in Little Bay – great for snorkeling. Across the road, there is a charming little waterfall that you can reach by foot walking in the river. The big bay has lifeguards on duty every day of the week. The beach at the small bay is even shallower and perfect for supervised children.
Don't miss out on the fresh fish at the fishermen's co-operative and the homemade bread at the clay oven twice per week. The water in Castara is very pure and is safe to drink.
If you feel for a bit more action there are a wide range of tours – fishing, mountain biking, horseback riding, sea kayaking, diving, golfing or even a day trip to Trinidad.

Guestbook
Utterly wonderful, natural, unpretentious and charming! Just a few of the adjectives that describe Castara cottage.
If you're looking for 5* luxury, this is not the place for you. In my opinion, the discerning tourist will completely appreciate the cottage's natural charm, and the opportunity to immerse themselves in Tobagonian culture.
Castara Cottage was delightful and importantly our 18 month old daughter loved it! Castara is beautiful. I don't think I have come across such a stunning location.
