A survey of over 1,000 holidaymakers searching for accommodation through Holidaylettings.co.uk has revealed that it’s the everyday basics that British holidaymakers can’t live without. Asked what items they take on holiday with them, 33% of respondents said that they take tea and coffee, whilst 26% pack a corkscrew.

Other items edging people closer to their baggage limit include Marmite®, peanut butter, garlic crushers, woks, cheese, lemons and the all important sink plug. Unsurprisingly in this technology led era, 84% of people can’t leave behind their mobile phone, 26% take their iPod and 13% a laptop.

“These results make interesting reading for the thousands of holiday homeowners out there,” says Ross Elder, MD of Holidaylettings.co.uk. “It’s a great touch to provide a welcome grocery pack for each new guest in your holiday home. These results suggest that what would really make holidaymakers smile on arrival are English tea and coffee brands, culinary basics, staple British condiments and maybe even a bottle of wine chilling in the fridge.”

The survey also found that only 4% of holidaymakers would choose to holiday in Prince Charles’ holiday home in Wales. With the recent announcement that Prince Charles is to become patron of British Tourism for the second year running this must come as a bitter disappointment to him.

But it is good news for Richard Branson, his Necker Island retreat in the British Virgin Islands was the favourite holiday choice with 49% of holidaymakers wanting to holiday there. This was closely followed by 47% choosing George Clooney’s Italian paradise on Lake Como.

Unfortunately, Clooney doesn’t let out his Italian property to holidaymakers, for some alternatives that cater for various group sizes and budgets take a look here: http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/lake-como-area/
