Death of the traditional 14 night holiday? Mon 9 May 2011Experts are predicting the demise of the traditional 14 night holiday – with British parents saying their ideal break is for 11 nights.i
83 per cent of the 3000 parents surveyed cited cost as an influencing factorii , and a quarter of parents worried about job security and their workload.iii They also have an overall preference for shorter holidays.
In addition, over 60 per cent of parents claimed they would be happy to take their children out of school to address these concerns.iv
In a survey by Holidaylettings.co.uk nearly half of the parents said they do not need to head abroad to feel like they have been on holidayv and would be happy to continue to take a 'staycation'.
A spokesperson for Holidaylettings.co.uk which conducted the poll said: "The recession has made debts and redundancy a huge concern for parents. While shorter holidays are becoming popular, self-catered accommodation is fast becoming an attractive, cheaper alternative to hotels and package holidays. With 4,888 family friendly properties available around the UK through Holidaylettings.co.uk, there is always the opportunity for a break for less."
