Chilli peanuts, custard & books are hand luggage must-haves Thurs 28 May 2009Two thirds of holidaymakers squeeze books into their suitcase alongside their holiday wardrobe according to the latest summer travel research by holidaylettings.co.uk. Books stole the show, far out-stepping iPods and iPhones, which came in third behind cameras despite the increasing quality of camera phones.
Some of the highlights of the survey were the more individual must-haves which included chilli peanuts for the flight to stop sinuses drying out, custard (no reason given), a travel fishing rod and travel barbeque (perhaps for the castaway break), cryptic crosswords, Alka-Seltzer, Haribo and “the biggest box of Weetabix money can buy”.
Surprisingly, just eight per cent of respondents mentioned getting a spray tan ahead of their trip, but other beauty favourites included hair straightners and sunglasses.
