The Pack Horse - Wisteria Apartment
Great location & a lovely place to stay.

We stayed at Wisteria for a winter walking break. Allerford is a great base as it is possible to walk to Dunkery Beacon, Porlock and Selworthy Beacon without using the car and everywhere else is but a short car ride away. Also there is the Allerford Club?! Wisteria is adjacent to the river - the whole area is natural (sound of running water) and with character. The hosts are warm and friendly and the accomodation is very comfortable with everything we needed. Lowerbourne Studio
Absolutely fabulous!

We were met by Sally, the owner, on our arrival at lowerbourne studio, at the start of a 7 day stay. On first appearance the setting is very attractive, beautiful courtyard garden, lovingly tended by Sally and her mum. On entering the studio, we were welcomed with hot scones with clotted cream and jam, a lovely start to our stay. The studio itself is first class! Everything you need is at hand, fully equipped and comfortable. Egyptian cotton sheets and towels, very comfortable bed. The shower is just the right size and everything was as clean and bright as new. Located right in the village centre, but away from the road, and extremely quiet! Porlock village is truly a gem, lovely architecture, quaint streets and shops, so many places to eat! We chose the Top ship inn to have a meal and it is a 13th century old inn with plenty of history. Porlock beach and the marsh is just a short distance away and a fantastic place to take in the atmosphere and the tranquility of this amazing area. The coastal walks are breathtaking as are the views all around. Just a short drive or a decent walk along the coast path takes you to porlock Weir and harbour. Very picture postcard and definately has to be visited! There are shops selling everything you need within the village, and the people of Porlock are among the friendliest I’ve ever met in my travels. If you have a dog, porlock is the place for you. We brought our Jack Russell with us, welcomed at Lowerbourne studio by Sally, and everywhere is dog friendly! No need to leave pooch in the kennels! The walks with the dog are hard to beat. All in all, Porlock is the perfect place to stay for a centre to explore from, everywhere is a short drive or walk, plenty of history and the scenery is simply stunning. We cannot say enough about Lowerbourne studio, it is an amazing and highly recommended place to stay, wether it be a two night break or longer, and you will not be dissapointed! Sally has created a homely cottage garden feel, and you could not ask for a better host. … see more

stayed a week at Marley Cottage and it was everything that we hoped for. Very clean and plenty of room in the cottage, really comfi sofas and beds. Porlock was very friendly and good choice of pubs and shops. some great walks from the cottage. would do it all again. … see more
