Paphos is the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite, and this part of Cyprus is full of sites of remnants of the island’s long history. Paphos has both ancient attractions such as the Greek and Roman remains which scatter the area and a modern and vibrant town. Outside Paphos there is plenty to explore, from the vineyard to the east of the city to Polis on the north coast. Polis is a quiet and undeveloped resort with peaceful beaches. Also to the north of Paphos is Coral Bay, with its excellent beaches and restaurants. Peyia offers traditional tavernas and quaint streets and is within easy reach of Aphrodite’s Rock and the Troodos mountains to the north.
