The house was perfect for a family. We've rented homes for the past ten years with our four kids and this house was by far the best kept, spotless clean lovely laundry towels, service was really excellent. Great proximity to the beach but all other amenities were a drive away. I felt pria del Rey was a bit stark like a huge half empty American holiday estate. I would recommend the house but I'm not sure I'd go back to the development unless you like driving a lot. … see more

Villa Rosie
Excellent accomodation - best we have ever stayed in

We were 2 families staying in Villa Rosie for 10 days. We had never been on holiday together so we all knew that 8 people staying under the one roof could be a bit of a challenge. To our pleasant surprise Villa Rosie welcomed us with open arms and was a perfect home for us for those 10 days. The villa was very well laid out with ample space for everybody. All bedrooms had excellently equipped bathrooms which added to the ease of living. We got towel changes every 3 days. Both the Kitchen and living room were very well equipped but what we all loved most was the beautiful Veranda and swimming pool area. Eating al fresco was so enjoyable. Praia del Rey is very different to any other resort we have visited and while it has over a 1,000 dwellings on it the facilities are not the best. It is primarily geared to the Golfing Holiday. There is a fine Club house which was quite pricey for drinks and food. There is only one shop on the site and one restaurant. Both of which are located at the beachfront end of the resort. All three facilities were closed for business during our stay due to financial difficulties, However changes were underway and as we were leaving all 3 were due to open within the week under new management. Hopefully things will improve. The beach on the resort has its dangers and we were advised not to swim there as the currents can be quite strong. It is a beautiful beach and lovely to sit on or walk on but the waves are very big so wading is about all you can do if your not into surfing etc. We went Baleal Sol beach. It is 15 mins drive from the house. This beach is a lovely one with good facilities. A beer and coffee €2...... in one of the bach bars. For Older teenagers this is where the night life is at so taxis may be required. The tennis courts were located near Villa Rosie and we used them a few times. It is €50 for 3 hours for one court and rackets are €4.50 to rent so it can add up if you want to play a lot of tennis. Serra del Rey is about a 10 min drive away. There is a good bakery 2 small supermarkets and 3 restaurants. The restaurant by the supermarket does excellent pizza that you can take away. Dining in this restaurant is very reasonable also. Obidos is about 15 mins drive and a lovely place to visit. Peniche is a fishing port with a number of seafood restaurants 20 mins drive. We really enjoyed our stay in Villa Rosie. it was quiet during our stay so the teenagers were a bit disappointed as they never met any others their age. But luckily they had each other for company. Sea Breeze
Quiet beachside flat with lovely balcony

Great place close to the massive Atlantic beach at the end of the Praia del Rey development. Good views over the golf course and ocean. Large shared pool a few steps away was welcome as the red flag is often flying on the beach. We were unlucky with the weather, the warm air over the cold ocean can cause a lot of mist and fog. OCT. 28 – NOV. 2 Casa da Travessa, Gabriela, Obidos, Portugal RETURN TO OBIDOS 10 YEARS LATER Ten years is a long time, but if the memory is lasting, then maybe it’s not so long. We wanted to return to Obidos and our only regret is that it took 10 years. Thanks to Airbnb we were able to stay in a property within the walls of the village. We had no interest in swimming pools and proximity to a beach. We wanted a “village” experience. Gabriela and her Cassa da Travessavillage provided a unique experience and will be as memorable as our first visit 10 years ago. This was our first venture with Airbnb and did not know totally what to expect. Gabriela made it easy. She was very responsive by e-mail contact and arranged to meet us outside the walls of the village. She lead us by car through the gates of this ancient walled village. We followed in our small rental car. Hint: Small car is essential for navigating the very narrow streets in the village, but at the same time a lot of fun and part of the experience. A parking space was provided near the house with appropriate parking authorization. Gabriela introduced the house to us and it was a total delight. The property is a charming two level small house that fits perfectly with the small street and neighboring houses. The front door opens directly to a pedestrian only small street with only the occasional sound of voices of a few tourists and neighbors walking by. The downstairs has an entrance foyer, a living room with sofas and TV. Guessing the sofas could be converted to sleeping accommodations, but not an issue since we were a couple. Behind the living room is fully functional kitchen, complete with full size refrigerator, microwave, oven, and top burner cooker. All crockery, plates, bowls, pots, pans, coffee maker, teapot, and utensils were available and more than adequate for cooking and dining in. A modern and exceptional supermarket is located a couple of miles outside the walls of the village and can easily provide all the staples you will want. Gabriela explained all the functions of the kitchen appliances, internet, door keys, laundry, etc. and answered all questions. Her command of English is excellent and we had no problems communicating. The upstairs consists of two bedrooms and full bath. One bedroom has two twin beds, the other bedroom has one twin bed. Both bedrooms overlook the street. The bedrooms were of ample size and provided more than enough room for our luggage and assorted belongings. The bath was a tub/shower and the bathroom was of good size with plenty of hot water. Our visit was at the end of October so heating/cooling was not an issue. A portable electric radiator was available for room heating if required. Our thinking is that these houses have substantial wall construction and along with the temperate climate of this part of Portugal, mechanical means of heating/cooling is not a big issue. The entire house was impeccably clean and pristine. It is obvious the house has been well maintained. Obidos is a lovely, walled village, and worthy of all your time being spent within the walls. We chose to make some day trips to nearby location, Santarem, Fatima, Alcobaca, Peniche, and Tomar. The Airbnb photos and descriptions were accurate and not misleading. For a “in the village” experience, the Cassa da Travessa is perfect. Obidos is an enchanting place and it’s a thrill to “live in the village” for a short while. We had no issues that required Gabriela’s assistance, although she resides just up the street and around the corner. Gabriela was a delight to meet and we wish her much success with Airbnb. She was our first encounter with Airbnb and we were extremely happy with the experience. It was a privilege and honor to be recipients of her hospitality and kindness.
