“We couldn't have been happier with this cottage!” We rented the Whillan Beck cottage for our honeymoon in the Lake District and couldn't have been happier with the cottage. It is located in a small but quaint town tucked between two mountain crags. Although the area is fairly remote, the proprietors included directions to a grocery store as part of their directions to the cottage so we arrived well stocked (the town also had a small market, post office, and pub). The cottage itself was super charming, impeccably clean and well and thoughtfully stocked. It even had wifi! We would highly recommend getting the "breakfast basket" as part of your stay (this was an extra offered at the time of rental), we were so impressed with the selection of meats, breads, and more that were waiting for us when we arrived---worth every penny! After exploring the more touristy destinations in the area, we were even happier with our cottage's quieter location as it allowed us to explore more of the amazing landscape and avoid the bustle and crowds we saw in some of the more trafficked towns. We already want to return to this cottage!

“A great place to stay for a weekend hike.” The house was warm, comfortable and clean with lovely vistas and easy access to the mountains. The beds were comfortable and the sofa bed worked a treat.

“Excellent location, pubs & good walks nearby, superb accommodation” We had stayed in another cottage a few weeks previously (Hardknott Cottage) and clearly enjoyed that so much we came back again! However, this time we wanted to try a slightly different cottage, so we went for Stanley Ghyll. I have stayed in the lakes several times over the years, but always in the main areas, on the eastern or nothern side. I wanted to take my girlfriend somewhere different so i decided on Eskdale which is an area i had never experienced before. I must say that i prefer this area now, since it's got everything you want; the "Lakes experience" - but not in the mad crowds of somewhere like Keswick. The cottage itself is fantastic as it’s a secluded detached building. The cottages are set in a hamlet called Boot, which has a pub 2 minutes walk away, and another one about 3 minutes away from that! They do fantastic food and beer. There are plenty of other choices too. Regarding things to do; of course there are walks, there's the beach not far away, there's a bunch of hills to climb and Sca Fell pike is close by if you feel like climbing a mountain (which we did and it was very satisfying). While we were there we also popped into Gosforth and had a pottery lesson which was good fun too. I think that the high quality of these cottages + the superb location offer an ideal experience to "get away from it all" without having to book flights, or worry about passports, or whether you're carrying over 100ml of liquid! This is only my second ever review on Trip Advisor and i only write something if a place has had a big impact on me - in this case it was a very positive one.

“Fantastic cottage for a truly relaxing break in a stunning location” Booked Wastwater Cottage as a treat for my Mum's 70th birthday and we were not disappointed. Enjoyed a really fabulous holiday in the Lake District, made all the more special by staying in this gorgeous cottage. For a family of 4 adults and 2 young children, this cottage was simply perfect, a choice of four comfy bedrooms and three lovely bathrooms meant we all had our own space but we were all very cosy when together in the comfortable lounge/diner. Upon arrival, (following the excellent instructions from the owner), we found the cottage was warm, clean and very inviting. We were spolit for choice as to which bedroom to have, and found everything to be clean and tidy, and even more gorgeous than it looks in the pictures. The cottage is set in a really stunning location, with gorgeous scenery and being very peaceful. We enjoyed exploring the old mill which is literally on your doorstep, and had a fabulous day out on the steam railway which is a short walk from the cottage. Had some great drives around the area, especially the Hardknott Pass, and loved the fact that sometimes the only traffic on the road were the cows and sheep which the children loved. The cottage was well equipped with everything you needed to self cater, but also located near to a couple of great inns with fabulous food, particularly the Boot Inn. Just need to ensure that you pick up your groceries before arrival at the cottage, (we shopped at Booths), as there is only the small village shop in Boot once you arrive. Would definitely recommend this cottage for a great holiday in the Lakes, it's in a fantastic location to get away from it all, but also near enough to get to the "tourist attractions" of the Lake District if you wish. We are so glad we decided to stay here, and felt totally relaxed and rejuvenated after our holiday here.

“Short stay at Tyas Cottage” The cottage was nothing short of lovely. It was quiet and peaceful - a good vacation spot away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The owners Vicky and John were friendly and hospitable, and the cottage was clean and well-equipped. The heating systems were good, beds were comfortable, and the cottage was well-designed. My family also loved the surroundings - with chickens, ducks and geese, as well as a stream and pond. It was particularly relaxing to sit in the pods that were suspended from a tree and overlooked the pond. It was perfect to admire the lush greenery and serenity of a countryside cottage. We hope to be back!
