“Once in a lifetime” This was the first time I had travelled to Egypt and on the Princess Donia, and I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone. The boat was furnished to a very high standard and this was reflected in the comfortable stay. The boat has no engines on board, apart from a small generator, and this meant that even while sailing early in the morning (well before waking) there is very little noise and you can sleep in as long as you would like to. The food was of a high standard and was mainly a form of local cuisine and breakfast being western. Throughout the whole trip no one had any stomach issues and great care was taken to ensure no risks were taken. The tours that were organise were fantastic and we were accompanied by local guides as well a member of the crew. This provided useful as they would turn away people hassling us and all your prices were taken care of so there was no stress in thinking you were being ripped of by the locals. I could go on and on about the trip but in short it was a fantastic trip and should be done by anyone at least once in their lives! Highly recommended.

“Excellent Apartment and Location, just the right mix of sun and culture” We had an excellent time during our 9 days in the Farasha house in Luxor. A good mix of Sunshine and Archeology with plenty of relaxation. The Apartment is all that it claims to be, spacious light and generally well equipped. The view from the balconies and the roof terrace (though I must confess the evenings were a little too chilly and breezy to spend much time there during our week in February) is a real feature. The beds are comfortable with plenty of clean linen and towels. Our only problem was that over time the original kitchen inventory had become rather depleted. We ate out pretty much every night but any more than 3 would have difficulties eating all at the same time if self catering. We have passed this on to the owners who will no doubt improve this for future rentals. The owner’s recommended Taxi driver Ali is excellent. He picked us up from the airport and delivered us the keys just as promised and was pretty much at our beck and call after that. He arranged a very good guide, Ragi, who was very good and informative company on our various trips around the sites. He also arranged a carriage ride with a driver who did not try to alter the price. Best of all he was able to book us a 1 day Nile cruse to Dendara a major highlight of our trip and at a very reasonable rate. I would not hesitate to recommend the location and this apartment to anyone; in fact I have been doing so ever since I got back.

Luxor holidays

Formerly known as Thebes, the capital city of Ancient Egypt, Luxor is considered "the world's greatest open-air museum." It is home to several of the country's greatest attractions, including the Museum of Mummification on its East Bank and the Valley of Queens on the West Bank which features the tomb and treasures of Queen Nefertari. You can tour many of these spectacular ruins by land or air, both of which are an unforgettable experience. In addition to all of the archeological and historical riches you will find in Luxor, the city also provides a wealth of arts, entertainment, shopping, and dining options as well as a buzzing nightlife. Outdoor activities run the gamut from hiking, mountain biking, climbing, and more. For visitors new to the area, one of the most spectacular attractions to see is the Winter Palace in Luxor, Egypt. It is truly awe-inspiring.

Here are a few additional suggestions of things to do in Luxor:

  • The Temple of Karnak: Originally known as Ipet-Isut in ancient times, this complex took pharaohs more than 2000 years to construct. It is dedicated to the Theban triad of Amun, Khonsu, and Mut.
  • Luxor Temple: This temple was constructed by Amenhotep III with additions by Ramses II during the 18th century. It was built to honour the celebration of the yearly Opet Festival, which included the procession of the Amun, Khonsu, and Mut statues from Karnak to Luxor. It features elegant columns and exquisite, expansive open courts.
  • The Valley of Kings: There are over 60 royal tombs in this ancient cemetery of Egypt's New Kingdom rulers. The most famous of which, the Tomb of Tutankhamen, was found in pristine condition back in 1922.
  • The Luxor Museum: This museum contains a great collection of statues and artefacts found in sites in and around Luxor. Some of these include a large pink granight head of Amenhotep III, Hathor's gilded head from Tutankhamen's tomb, and Queen Nefertiti.
  • The Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari: Dedicated to Queen Hatshepsut, the longest-ruling female leader of Ancient Egypt, this temple is a mortuary one. It is decorated with reliefs, sphinxes, and statues that have been painstakingly restored through the years.
  • Valley of the Nobles: This valley contains the Theban tombs of the Nobles and it spans over a heavily populated area south of the Valley of the Kings.

A holiday rental in Luxor offers the best of accommodations in the Nile River Valley. A villa near the water or a condo in the city centre can provide all of the comforts of home and all of the modern amenities you need.

Farasha House-Luxurious Duplex On The Nile
Super apartment; the perfect self-catering stay in Luxor.

Our group of four adults stayed for a week in Farasha House, and would have loved to have stayed longer. We had a great holiday and only regretted that we had left the children at home, as they would also have enjoyed use of the large pool, the comfort of the apartment and the wonders of Luxor. We would definitely return. The apartment: Farasha house is really spacious. We were a group of 4 and there was more than enough space for us all. Farasha house overlooks the pool and has lovely views of the incredible Nile from the balconies on both floors (from 2 of the 3 bedrooms and also from the living/dining area) and also from the roof terrace. The roof terrace was my particular favourite spot. There is some lovely shade so I was able to sit up there all day, enjoying the inspirational views and the peace. The apartment is well appointed and tastefully decorated. It is spacious, clean and welcoming. There is an attention to detail that shows that lots of thought and love has been put into each room, creating a homely feel. The kitchen was well equipped. We cooked at home on 5 nights and found everything that we needed. Sarah had arranged for a welcome pack for us, which got us going on the first day. At some point I thought that the apartment would benefit from having an iron and ironing board but then I remembered that I was on holiday; who irons on holiday??!!! I am now very glad that I was saved from myself. There is nothing that any of us could think of that the apartment lacked. There were loads of DVDs and books available for our use (and even some with Dutch and French subtitles for my parents in law, fantastic). The complex: The complex is a series of tasteful, low-rise apartments. The grounds are very well maintained and there is a small café on site, which serves a selection of meals and snacks. Wi-Fi is available from the office, which we loved (you can get on the net if you need to but the temptation to spend the whole holiday just answering that ‘one’ work email is diminished). The office also sells essential supplies, which is really handy. The staff were really friendly. We didn't really need them as everything went smoothly but I am confident that they would have been on hand if we had needed them. There isn’t much in walking distance so guests really need use of a car to get into the centre. This has advantages (more peaceful and relaxed) and disadvantages (less spontaneity). We knew that this was the case before we arrived so didn’t have a problem with this. The area: Despite some media hype proclaiming doom and gloom, we all felt very safe in Luxor. Clearly some tourists had been put off, as fellow travellers were few and far between. We experienced a little ‘encouragement’ from street vendors wanting us to buy their wares, as to be expected, however we never felt intimidated or overwhelmed by this. The hassle factor was mild by any standards, which was particularly surprising (and welcome) given the lack of trade. Ali: We took the recommendation to use the services of Ali, the taxi driver, and were really happy that we did. He was always reliable and full of local knowledge. We felt that his driving was very safe and he was friendly and kind. Given the location of the apartment, Ali helped to make our holiday go smoothly and got us everywhere we needed to go.see more
