Located between its larger Baltic neighbours, Latvia has come into its own since the end of Soviet occupation. The capital, Riga is a vibrant and picturesque town with cobbled streets and Art Nouveau architecture. The Old Town is picture perfect. Outside the capital Sigulda is equally charming, home to many medieval castles and known as the Switzerland of Latvia. Liepaja has more of a post-Soviet feel and plenty of bars as well as a growing rock scene.
