The South East England / Greater London region
Balham High Road, a busy main thoroughfare, is not the best for shopping but is enlivened by the Asian outlets selling clothes and foodstuffs. There's growing collection of bars and a sprinkling of restaurants (good for Indian food). Tooting has more in the way of shops and there are some good restaurants around Bellevue Road at the lower end of Wandsworth Common.
The surrounding areas - Clapham, Wandsworth and Battersea - have theatres, cinemas and more shops, bars and restaurants. Green space is provided by Clapham Common, Tooting Bec Common and Wandsworth Common.
Transport facilities are particularly good. There are tube stations at Balham, Tooting Bec, and Tooting Broadway (Northern line) and a station at Balham with a quick service to Victoria.
Central London/Zone 2 / Tooting area
Take a ride to Covent Garden to enjoy the shops, wine bars and restaurants. Or go to Victoria to visit Buckingham Palace.
