The Black Sea Coast region
The Black Sea Coast is a booming tourist destination with beautiful white sand beaches and clear, clean water. Prices are very low, Bulgarian service is good, and the food is wonderful.
Sozopol / Sozopol New Town area
Sozopol is the oldest town on the Black Sea coast. It was originally known as Apollonia and founded as a trading port. Anaximander, a famous Greek philsopher and contemporary of Thales is said to have lived here. The complex of our apartment is named after this famous philosopher.
The town has two wonderful and popular beaches plus a number of other beaches are a short distance from the town. The town is divided into two parts called the 'old town' and the 'new town'. The 'old town' which lies on a peninsula and is the site of the original settlement has a number of charming shops, café's and old houses in the traditional bulgarian style. There is a port and a soon a marina.
The new town covers the opposite side of the bay as well as the hills above the bay. Near the new town's beach there are a number of restaurants and bars that offer a certain amount of night life but overall the town is quite quiet for a beach resort.
Although most believe that Sozopol is exclusively frequented by Bulgarians, you will find the large majority of visitors are foreign. Many of them are Eastern European, however. Foreign languages at the shops and bars are not as common as on Sunny Beach or some of the other sea resorts in Bulgaria. However, the prices are still much lower than these other resorts as well.
Recently, a strong influx of foreign investment has caused an explosion in development in and around Sozopol. The town counsel which is sensitive to the summer tourist industry has placed a moratorium on construction within the town limits between the months of May and September.
