Top Tips

  • Pack your golf shoes with valuables in your hand luggage. Playing in rented shoes means risking blisters.
  • Overseas golf courses do not allow golf shoes with metal spikes. It is one of the reasons why the courses are always in such good condition.
  • A long flight and night in a strange bed can take its toll. Try not to overdo it early on. Play yourself into the first day nice and easy.
  • Many overseas clubs insist on handicap certificates but many UK golfers won’t have one. If you think you may need one, ask your club secretary for a written confirmation that your playing ability is between 0 and 24.
  • According to golf etiquette if you are playing on your own you are deemed to be practising on the course and must let groups behind you through without delay. So if you do play on your own, try to avoid playing before 12pm and choose a quiet course.
  • If you wish to choose what time you want to play, be sure to book well in advance.
  • Some local golf clubs charge a small fee for golf insurance and federation taxes, check these additional administrative costs when you book your first game.
