“Manoir Laurette offered me a countryside heaven so relaxing I am hoping to return yearly, even only for weekend.” I rented Manoir Laurette for two months in the fall of 2012, staying solo, with my friend, and with my partner. I cannot recommend this place enough. Upon arriving I felt immediately at home but also awed at the tasteful bohemian and modern style, words that seem antagonistic to a french country manor! But boy, does Lora make it work! When she is there, she is such a joy to be around, cutting lavender and flowers here and there for the guests, providing scrumptious (and stunningly presented!) breakfasts, telling stories of her dancing and her adventures over tea. I lounged around in the garden near the flower beds reading poetry or listening to the music played by my friends, I came inside for an afternoon tea, in the evenings we all cooked together, and at night after my bath I fell asleep in love to the sound of the wind, the stars, and the small pond frogs, only to wake up to soft sunlight, big white french windows, and birds chirping. From the second floor is a gorgeous view of the sunset. The garden reminds me a little bit of Versaille, but obviously much more contained! I spent weekends in Bordeaux or on the beach at Arcachon, I made friends with the locals in Monsegur and La Reole over coffee in the cafes, or the weekly market trips, and I explored the vineyards and the miraculous Eglise in the surrounding hamlet. Would have loved to play tennis, but did not yet have my equipment. Renting a car will help you get the most out of this trip, and perhaps bring a computer to watch some of the great selection of movies Lora has, but it is no short of possibilities even if you decide to stay more secluded and offline. The perfect place to paint, or write a novel. Thank you Lora!
