The House consists of 5 cottages, a pool area, lounge, dining hall and library, offering panoramic views of Mount. Kenya and the surrounding wilderness area. Kifaru, named from the swahili word for Rhino, is a magical lodge nestled on a hilltop in the middle of the beautiful lewa wildlife conservancy in Kenya. The lodge consists of five separate huts serving as private bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. The central building houses the dinning and sitting room which includes a fully-stocked bar, two large fireplaces and plenty of space to curl up and enjoy a book. The covered terrace is furnished with comfortable sofas and is the perfect place to enjoy al fresco dinning. A short walk down a path leads to the heated swimming pool. The pool house has a sitting, dining and bar area, massage room and shower facilities. Pampered by a team of highly trained, friendly staff, guests can gaze on the extraordinary land around them and feel immediately connected to a magical, ancient wilderness that has changed little in thousands of years. Built in the last decade to the highest specifications and incorporating local materials in many of its furnishings and buildings, Kifaru has recently been given an environmental and ecological makeover. Solar panels help generate electricity and heat water; water is recycled to irrigate the landscape; and an organic kitchen garden is lovingly tended. On arrival at the lodge, guests are immediately struck by the peace and tranquility of the grounds – a lush oasis teeming with colorful bougainvillea, the Garden Rooms at Lewa Wilderness are nearest the main areas and are built in pairs, with private en-suite facilities and a shared veranda and sitting room. The layout of these rooms is ideal for a family or those who do not want to walk too far as they are nearer the main facilities. Lewa Wilderness is one of Kenya’s oldest private safari experiences. For forty years, guests have been coming to this remarkable region to be part of an adventure like no other. Those four decades have seen that passion passed down through the Craig family who proudly continue to run Lewa Wilderness today. Lewa Wilderness is one of the original family homes and is still home to Will and Emma Craig. Guests can relax by the fire in the cosy sitting room and share meals around a long banquet table in the open-air dining room. Natural springs, home-raised livestock, and a five-acre organic garden are transformed by skilled chefs into incredible, healthy and delicious food. THE LODGE GARDENS On arrival at the lodge, guests are immediately struck by the peace and tranquility of the grounds – a lush oasis teeming with colorful bougainvillea. The vast array of birdlife in the gardens could keep you entertained for hours on end, so much so that you might never want to leave! MAMA’S GARDEN Lewa Wilderness has its own small farm that is run by Will Craig’s mother, Delia. Every meal at the lodge includes fresh organic produce from the large vegetable garden. We also get our eggs, milk and goats cheese from the farm which guests are welcome to visit. Watch the cows and goats being milked, then take a walk around the gardens, perhaps tasting a ripe strawberry or two along the way! The lodge is just nine exclusive rooms: six cottages tucked into the hillside overlooking Lewa’s Eastern Marania Valley, plus three garden cottages set amidst the beautiful green lawns. Each room is unique and luxuriously comfortable with the rustic character of a ranch homestead. THE GARDEN ROOMS The original rooms built by David and Delia Craig when they started the lodge. They are the cottages closest to the main living areas, each consisting of two ensuite bedrooms attached by a comfortable sitting area with a bar and cosy fireplace. They are perfect for families or those who do not wish to be too far from the main areas. THE HILLSIDE ROOMS Six individual cottages, each with a unique layout. These cottages were built to capture the stunning views out over the valley and the sound of the river below where elephants, giraffe, rhino, zebra and more all come to drink. Each cottage has ensuite facilities, a cosy sitting area and fireplace, and a private outdoor verandah where one can enjoy a morning coffee whilst watching the sunrise. Activities include horse riding, walking with the Masai, game drives, scenic flights, camel rides, cultural visits to local communities, farm and craft tours, visits to the local school, prehistoric sites, tennis, and swimming in the horizon saltwater swimming pool overlooking the ravine. A private ranch, a private house and a private paradise; that is Lewa Wilderness. Additional amenities include: shower, roofed patio/deck/terrace, fans, bed linen provided, separate wc.  …see more
