Christmas markets (235)

Get festive by booking a city break near a spectacular Christmas market. Packed full of unique handmade gifts, light shows, ice rinks, fairgrounds and much more, Christmas markets offer plenty of festive cheer to get you into the Christmas spirit.

Cities across Europe play host to Christmas markets from November. Visit Berlin to see Charlottenburg Castle bathed in romantic lights. Or discover unique handmade gifts in between seeing the sights in Vienna, Brussels or Prague.

In the UK, some of the best Christmas markets are held in London, York and Bath. Go there for traditional German-style stalls selling handmade jewellery, crafts and toys and tasty yuletide delicacies. And there’s plenty to keep the kids entertained with street theatre, fairgrounds and, of course, Santa’s grotto.

We are all tingly, just reading your review. We can't imagine how anyone could be more complimentary and we are sure your eloquence has added an extra dimension to our testimonials. We can understand why Bath had such an impact on you as it is a very special place, both to live in and visit. And it's very exciting to think we may play a small part in one of your future life decisions! John is very active and knowledgeable of the Bath property market, so when the time comes, he would be very pleased to help you in any way he can. The next time you come, you will hopefully find the WiFi a little more reliable, as we have ordered a booster which should make the signal's penetration of the thick stone walls in the Saltings somewhat easier. Please keep in touch with us. Regards John and Jane

Thank you for your comments; we’re pleased that you found the cottage to be convenient for the city and good value for money. We hope you enjoyed the bottle of wine, fresh coffee, biscuits, orange juice and eggs that we provided. We’re sorry to hear that you found the walk to the local train stations a bit much. Most guests find them to be a short walk of around 7 minutes. There is a local convenience store and off licence 3 minutes walk from the cottage. The large supermarkets are 5 minutes drive. We agree that the bedroom is not as spacious as it could be as more room has been allocated to the lounge/kitchen areas. However the bed is a high quality, standard double size with a deep mattress, feather quilt and pillows. Thank you for your telephone message saying how much you enjoyed your stay.

Thank you so much for your review, we missed having you to stay this summer! Since your stay last year we have done some upgrading of facilities, namely the addition of an honesty shop, new bedding which isn't as heavy (sheets are available on request should it get very hot, and when that happened last month we made portable fans available for guests), ultrafast internet with a router in each cottage. Waterperry now has a big new Smart TV for rainy days like today and the kitchen has new knives and cutlery just to keep the boring essentials in top nick! We're always looking to improve things here and value feedback from our guests. Thanks again and look forward to seeing you again soon. Best wishes, James & Felicity

"Good location"

We enjoyed our stay at Waterperry Cottage and found it to be very clean and fairly well equipped - could have done with a better grill tray and an egg/fish slice. No expense has been spared on the fix… More

Many thanks for taking the time to give detailed feedback, we appreciate all comments and work hard to take action on any parts that aren't up to a 5* standard. I'll look at the grill tray as we do have more, as well as egg slices. For the benefit of readers we live on site and are always on hand should anything else be needed as, if it's not in the cottage, we'll probably have it. There are washing powder tablets provided in the cottage and the honesty shop and it has since been clearly labelled, a good point I'd not thought of. The dog comments is a difficult one for us in that the courtyard is a communal garden shared with 4 cottages and not everybody is a dog lover. We email all guests to ask them not to let dogs off leads as the grass gets stained by dog business which can make our 5* garden look tatty and there are French drains (gravel) at the front of the cottages for the morning wee. Being family friendly we have to advertise fines, just like anywhere else, as not all dog owners are as courteous to other people as you were and I'd have more of a problem if a toddler was playing with dog mess than asking the dog owner to take their dog 50 yards away. We also offer our enclosed garden next door, with or without our sociable dog Bob, or the farmyard, for exercise and we're happy to dog sit if you're popping out for a few hours. As for other exercise areas we're on a bridle way with 1000 acres of RSPB reserve so it's great for dogs. As for action on your comment I am now planning to set aside an area in the courtyard for dogs and guests to enjoy a book or bbq without leads. We do ask our guests to leave the cottage as they find it and if they wish for additional cleaning we can provide that. It's made clear on booking and in the arrival email that this is the case and whilst the guest information can be interpreted as too much info for some, in our experience others need more persuasion! If in doubt we're always on hand to ask. I will look to modify the wording but in reality we clean the cottage anyway so if the dishwasher and bins are emptied we're more than happy. The micro-brewery does exist and being micro it brews twice a month. Sadly they don't yet bottle the beer though it's available by the 'pin, barrel or in local pubs. I'll gladly show anyone around, please do ask. Thank you for your feedback and we hope you will consider us again with our soon to be improved dog facilities. Best wishes, James
