Chiang Mai Province holidays

Chiang Mai Province

This idyllic province, nestled in the mountainous area of North Thailand, is a not-so-secret paradise for travellers from all over the world.

Whether you want to immerse yourself in the hustle and bustle of the city, or lose yourself in outdoor pursuits, both Chiang Mai and Holiday Lettings can help make your dreams a reality.

About Chiang Mai Province

Chiang Mai is the second largest province in Thailand. But, despite its similar size, it is very different to Bangkok.

If you're looking for a sophisticated metropolitan getaway, Bangkok is where you should go. For everything else, head to Chiang Mai province.

It's more like a rural retreat. But, don't worry, it has everything you need for a fantastic holiday.

Chiang Mai can be found near the Mae Ping River Basin, surrounded by the glorious mountain ranges of the Thai highlands. This provides spectacular views and lots of opportunities for outdoor adventures.

Founded in 1296 and originally the capital of the Lanna Kingdom, it was the cultural core and the centre of Thailand's Buddhist faith. In fact, King Meng Rai built an incredible number of temples that you can still visit today.

What to do in Chiang Mai Province

Chiang Mai Province is a beautiful destination with plenty of natural and manmade wonders for you to explore.

Discover Doi Inthanon National Park, and climb to the summit of the highest mountain in Thailand—Doi Inthanon itself. Make sure you don't miss the waterfalls, either!

Explore the city and markets, and make sure you visit the spectacular temples. Even the steps leading up to Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep are impressive.

For you foodies, why not try a cooking course? You'll learn how to make traditional local meals including nam phrik ong—a spicy chilli paste made with minced pork and tomatoes. Yum!

The adventurous holidaymaker can try their hand at rafting, hiking and mountain biking. But, if you're looking for a more laid back holiday, we'd suggest soaking in the hot springs and taking a leisurely stroll around the botanical gardens.

There are also plenty of places for you to interact with elephants. You may even get to feed them (they like fruit and veggies, just so you know).

Top travel tips for Chiang Mai Province

Chiang Mai province doesn't really get cold, but it does get wet—thanks to the tropical climate. Just remember to pack a lightweight mac and you'll be all set!

If you want to truly explore the city, take a tuk-tuk or a samlor (rickshaw). They're great fun and can wind in and out of the traffic with ease.

This part of Thailand is known for its hand-crafted items. From silver jewellery to elaborate parasols, you'll see it all in the local markets. Make sure you pick up a souvenir or two.

Chiang Mai has everything you could possibly need for the perfect holiday. Just book your holiday rental on Holiday Lettings and start your adventure today. You won't regret it, and you'll create unforgettable memories.

Paradise on the Ping River
Great base for a Chiang Mai golf escape.

House is comfortable spacious with large bedrooms and living areas. Views are spectacular. Good size kitchen. Very relaxing garden area with pool. The property owner, who lives in the area, is very responsive and will lay on transportation, provide a cook, suggest local restaurants etc. The property is located near 3 good golf courses (and, if you are a golfer, is accessible to Chiang Mai Highlands, justly rated as one of Thailand's top 3 courses.)see more
Galare Thong Condo-STANDARD B
Great place for a long stay

The apartment was in excellent condition, fully equipped with all necessary appliances to prepare food and drinks. In the lobby of the building has a small restaurant that has great prices and delicious food. For the Wi-Fi you need to purchase a coupon that you can use on a single computer, it is the only thing that bothered us a bit. Everything else was wonderful.see more
guest house in the palms
3 days/ night in the rainforest

A wooden house right in the jungle ! Though surrounded by houses and streets/ roads but the only sounds you will hear are the running stream and the birds singing.Banana trees and all sorts of exotic trees and plants are your view from the room windows. The rooms themselves are absolutely incredible! Decorated and furnished with a mixture of Thai and Canadian/ Native Indian style. Some might not appreciate the dust and spider webs, but remember you are right in the nature ! ;) .Bob is a very generous and available person, he picked me up from my previous place and gave me a lift to the airport, on the last day. I also had the surprise to be offered a much bigger room than planned when I booked. Teck house in the Palms is a very special place indeed. You must try it if you are looking for a quiet, unusual stay in the Thai nature. Thanks Bob !see more

Quiet - enjoyable place to have for long term

We enjoyed being close to the town, but not right in the middle, Galare Thong Towers are well managed and has kept their prices affordable for everyone. Finding a clean apartment is sometimes harder to find, but their weekly clean (extra) was very much appreciated. We stayed for the full month of March 2012, Patrick & Oil.see more
