The Cotswolds run through Cheltenham and Gloucester, and many villages in this area have their sleepy and picturesque feel. Cheltenham became a popular spa in the 18th century, and its Regency architecture remains very well preserved. Tewkesbury is home to the beautiful Abbey, one of the most popular spots in the Midlands for visitors. Stow-on-the-Wold is the highest point on the Cotswolds and Gloucester has a magnificent cathedral. The area is also home to Berkeley Castle, a medieval castle where Edward II was imprisoned and murdered.
