Gain rave reviews from your theatre-going guests

Tourists love the theatre

Good news for owners whose property is near a theatre: new statistics reveal that experiencing the glitz and glamour of a musical or a play is one of the most popular activities for overseas tourists to the UK.

According to VisitBritain, 24% of overseas holiday visitors who stay in London go to the theatre during their break – meaning that over 2 million international tourists have enjoyed a show in the capital over the last year. Musicals, such as Wicked and The Lion King, are proving particularly popular.

And it’s not just London’s theatres that are welcoming overseas tourists – 14% of all international holiday trips to the UK include a trip to see a show, with the West Midlands and North West regions of the UK performing especially strongly.

Help your guests enjoy a trip to the theatre

Making it as easy as possible for your guests to enjoy a trip to the theatre could be a great way of showing you’ve gone the extra mile, leading to positive reviews for your holiday home. Here are some of our ideas, but if you’ve got any of your own we’d love to hear them!

  • If your property is close to a well-known theatre, mention it in your home description on your ad.
  • Include a copy of the local theatre’s listings in your welcome pack. If your property is within easy access of London, include a guide for the capital’s theatres as well.
  • Some of the most popular shows and musicals sell out in advance, particularly in London. You could provide details of where guests can find last minute tickets or even let them know about upcoming shows before they arrive so they can buy their tickets before they sell out.
  • There are often discounts available for theatre tickets – National Rail offers 2 for 1 theatre tickets when travelling into the capital by train, for example. Find out if there are any discounts relevant for the theatres near you and mention them in your welcome pack.
  • Many restaurants offer discounted ‘pre-show’ set menus. Let your guests know about any good restaurants offering deals like this in your area.

A bumper summer for UK tourism

UK tourism is on the upUK tourism figures are on the up, according to the Office for National Statistics. Summer 2013 saw a marked increase in visitors to Great Britain, which is great news for UK holiday home owners.

During the peak summer month of August, the UK saw a 16% overall rise in visitors and an upturn of 14% in North American tourists.

There was also a 28% increase in visitors from outside North America and Europe, with many more travellers from Latin America, Asia Pacific and the Middle East choosing the UK for their leisure breaks.

Visits abroad for UK residents also grew by 4% from June to August, with more British travellers making the most of long weekends and bank holidays with trips abroad.

My simple steps for boosting enquiries

Rowena - Ad refresh

It’s a good time as any to review and refresh your ad. Rowena shares what she does to help give her enquiries a boost.

There are a few simple steps I always abide by that can really help boost enquiries.

General advert update

I make sure everything on my advert is up to date and seasonalised with new year prices and an updated availability calendar. I remove my ‘pitch’ for long term winter lets and update my descriptions with the promise of some summer sunshine!

Photo update

Sunny holiday shots are key to attracting bookings in the bleak winter months, so make sure your advert has lots of them! We make sure all the photos do our home justice and are a good representation of the type of holiday our guests can expect.

Optimise your exposure

It’s also a good time to consider using some extra advertising opportunities available through Holiday Lettings like Spotlights and Late Deals. Since our Spotlight went live last month we’ve started seeing more enquiries.

Always act fast

If you’ve received an enquiry from a potential guest chances are they’ve enquired with at least one of your competitors too, so sending a quick response with clear information is absolutely key. You can sign up for free SMS text alerts every time you receive an enquiry. Now there’s also the new Holiday Lettings mobile app, which is free and a great way to manage enquiries and bookings when you’re out and about.

Now over to you: what do you do to get the enquiries flowing at this time of year? Do you have any tips or advice to share with other homeowners?

Good luck!

Rowena
