From the owner

This lovely historical cottage, developed to a high standard, has great character and magnificent views. Located within the Lake District National Park, in a quiet, peaceful and picturesque hamlet named Hartsop, the cottage offers relaxation away from life's hustle and bustle, in comfortable, spacious, well-equipped accommodation. Take the opportunity to chill-out in the garden on a deck chair and be mesmerised by the views of Dovedale and the gurgling sounds of Hayeswater Gill. Hartsop is a haven for photographers being a designated Conservation Area, noted for its pretty lakeland-stone traditional cottages and spinning galleries, Mill Cottage is surrounded by high mountains, and is an ideal base from which to explore and walk. If you are a walker, leave your car at the cottage, and start your walks at the front door. All levels of interest and ability are provided for. Situated at the bottom of the Kirkstone Pass and close to Ullswater, the cottage provides a central base for exploring the whole of the Lakes.

The cottage is surprisingly spacious for three adults, and has an upside-down design, the main room and kitchen being on the first floor to take advantage of the lovely panoramic mountain views. The use of natural wood is a special feature of the cottage, notably the exposed beams, pitched rafters and hardwood floors. In particular, local ash wood has been used extensively for doors, architraves, skirting boards and floors. All first floor rooms have high pitched ceilings and the main room has a cosy wood-burning stove. The entrance hall and utility room have local green slate flooring.

On the ground floor, the main bedroom, overlooking the garden and stream, has a king-size bed and the second bedroom has a single bed with guest bed suitable for a child. The bathroom is on the first floor and a bathroom is adjacent to the bedrooms. The utility room provides facilities for supporting activities on the patio, which overlooks the garden and stream.

Change over is on a Sunday, arrival time 16.00 and departure 10.00. Electricity, linen and a starter wood pack are included in the tariff. The cottage is for non-smokers only and sorry, no pets. We ask our guests to provide their own personal towels, though we can supply them at a small additional cost.
