Collioure area
Collioure is a picturesque former fishing village in French Catalonia. Famous for its anchovies, which make up the basis of many Catalan dishes, it has been awarded the 'site remarquable du goût' (site of culinary excellence) because of the way that the fish are still filleted by hand. The largely pedestrianised streets are a maze of twists and turns as they step up from the seafront, stroll amongst these to discover the restaurants, art galleries and shops selling pottery and wines of the area, sit and have an aperitif at one of the many seaside bars around the bay. It has been a mecca for artists for well over a century, made famous by artists such as Matisse, Derain and Picasso. Collioure has three main beaches with safe swimming areas, snorkelling and sailing. with several pretty coves nearby for those seeking a little more solitude. On Wednesday and Sunday mornings a bustling market is held; while throughout the months of July and August there are festivities and music. From the 14th-18th in mid-August the 'Fete de St Vincent ' is held, culminating in a spectacular firework display in the bay. The terrace must be one of the very best places to see this amazing display, with uninterrupted views of both the Chateau Royal and the Church which are included in this firework extravaganza . Over Christmas and New Year there is a big marquee put up on the beach where you can dance the night away for free, with yet another spectacular display of fireworks at midnight.

Guestbook
We had a fabulous time. The apartment was lovely, so fresh and clean. I loved the town and the view from the rooftop terrace! We explored the region and it’s wonderful vineyards. Walked to Port Vendre one day, over the mountain. Ate delicious oysters at the bar in the fish market. Great fun. S K & party - Virginia ---------------------------------------------- Just to let you know we had a fantastic holiday in Collioure. The apartment exceeded all our expectations by some margin and the roof terrace was such a bonus. Great service everywhere. The friendliest most relaxed holiday I have had for many years. I have been to that area of France many times, this was the best visit ever – that is in no small part due to the apartment and its location. Thank you so much for allowing us to share this fabulous place in your wonderful apartment. Lots of memories to cherish and we all vow to return to Collioure again and again!!! M-A J & party Yorkshire ---------------------------------------------- We had a super holiday and the mixed bag of weather did not at all spoil our enjoyment of Collioure and the surrounding area. The girls had a lovely time, and found plenty to do especially in the evenings! Your flat was fantastic, we felt very at home and on the days when it was hot the roof garden was stunning. I'm sure we will want to use it again....... I will certainly be recommending it to friends. K & J M & family - Kent - April 2007 ---------------------------------------------- Hi Sheila We've had the best of holidays! We love your home in Collioure. Thanks for all the good service that you've provided! It feels like we’ve found our second home, after two wonderful weeks here in Collioure, all four of us have collected memories that will bring joy to our minds. We love the apartment, the town, the beautiful views and walks on the different beaches, the sunrise from behind the church, the swallows and the clock tower..I & Y N & family - Norway - May 2007 ---------------------------------------------- Sheila, a note of thanks for your help with our trip and your wonderful apartment. We had a lovely time and enjoyed every moment. the location was fantastic and the accommodations were above and beyond our expectations. The kids had the time of their lives running to the beach and getting ice cream. J & J R & family - USA - June 2007 ---------------------------------------------- Just wanted to drop you a note to say that we had a wonderful time in Collioure! It's a beautiful place, very relaxing and everything is on hand for the ideal holiday. Your apartment is delightful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you for making it so comfortable, the flowers were a very welcoming sight on our arrival. We didn't rent a car whilst in Collioure which meant that we just dotted around the town - this was ideal, as we didn't feel under any pressure to do very much. We swam in the sea which our daughter loved, ate in many of the surrounding restaurants, had walks up to the windmill and enjoyed the many buskers and jazz musicians that regularly appeared in Place 18 Juin. We'd love to return to Collioure at some point but in the meantime many thanks again. With very best wishes - I & J Mc & family - Scotland - July 2007 ---------------------------------------------- We found Prud’homie on the internet and it well exceeded our expectations. The views from the roof terrace are stunning! Everywhere in Collioure there is a photo opportunity! The Little Train is worth a trip and the windwill is worth a walk for the views. The apartment is very well equipped – nothing is missing. Pictures, wine and flowers all lovely and a nice touch on arrival. T & L R & friends - Cheshire - August 2007 ---------------------------------------------- Having just enjoyed our last glass of Rose on the terrace, we’re definitely not ready to return to sunny Yorkshire! The apartment has been a home from home with the bonuses of sunshine, spectacular views, wonderful food and decent reasonably priced wine! For children we’d recommend the beaches at Argeles or Le racon, which we visited by boat and on foot – we enjoyed a day in Perpignan and the castle in Collioure is worth exploring – the firework display was spectacular and we enjoyed the music during the festival. We’d love to come back by train and experience Collioure out of season. I’ve had a great time in Collioure! The flat is lovely and spacious! We took a trip to Canet and the sand on the beach was gorgeous – I loved going on the little train up into the hills, which my dad walked up whist we stayed in bed! I also love to look in all the shops down the different alleyways from Millie 9½ ~ Fab! Dan aged 6 ~ p.s the language is weird! A & D H & family - Yorkshire - August 2007 ---------------------------------------------- Wow! What a lovely apartment - the views are incredible and its so nice to have warm weather! The sea is crystal clear and refreshing. A relaxing week in the prettiest town on the Med.
