From the owner

Robin's Barn is a pretty converted stone barn with a stunning view over the Wye Valley in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. It is situated next door to the owners' secluded home, in a tiny hamlet and reached by a private driveway. The nearest village of Penallt which has 2 pubs and a historic 13th century church is 1 mile away. It is ideal for a maximum of 2 adults and a pet. The cosy cottage is well equipped and an attractive spiral staircase leads from the open plan beamed living area with woodburning stove, dining and kitchen area, to the upstairs accommodation consisting of a double bedroom, a small single bedroom suitable for a child and bathroom, with shower over bath. The patio has a glorious view and the cottage is an ideal base for walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers. There is an all weather tennis court which guests may use. It is dog friendly, with paths leading from the door and the local pub is a short stroll away. There is an abundance of wildlife to enjoy from the comfort of Robin's Barn, including deer, badgers, foxes, buzzards, owls and woodpeckers. Both Offa's Dyke path and the Wye Valley Walk are accessible from Robin's Barn without the need of a car! The Usk Valley, Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains and Forest of Dean are all within easy reach as is Symonds Yat, famous for its resident peregrine falcons and stunning views over the Wye Valley. There are many sites of historic interest, the numerous castles built to defend the English - Welsh border, abbeys of which the most famous is Tintern, immortalised by the poet William Wordsworth just 5 miles away. Robin's Barn, in the heart of the Wye Valley is 5 miles from the little market town of Monmouth, with its beautiful medieval bridge.

Interaction with guest

The owners live next door and are usually on hand if there are any problems or if guests would like advice over choice of walk, local pubs and restaurants. There is a comprehensive guide in the cottage to such things as local walks from the door, cycle rides, recommended pubs and restaurants as well. They provide a welcome pack including logs for the woodburner, matches, tea towels, toilet rolls, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, soap, and often there is something homemade provided for arrival.
