The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
Costa Blanca's most appealing features has to be the climate - with its mild winters and warm summers it attracts many tourists every year, with activities to suit everybody's needs! With miles of sandy unspoilt beaches it is easy to pick a spot to catch some rays and enjoy safe swimming in the blue flag areas. But this isn't all the area has to offer. Ramblers and conservation lovers will appreciate the surrounding coastlines and magnificent nature reserves. Golfers can enjoy a selection of top golf courses dotted around, whilst i have been assured the shoe shopping in the cities cannot be missed! For families and friends alike who want to take a break from the glorious beaches there are many attractions to be found, including waterparks and aquariums. Fitness fanatics, thrill seekers or water-sport lovers can indulge in a variety of activities to be found along the coast from kitesurfing, diving or snorkelling to paragliding, wind surfing or jet skiing. Fishermen will also find their niche here, with the choice of fishing off a boat or coast. So all in all, you will be spoilt for choice of what to do - a full action packed holiday or lazy sun and sangria holiday. A few places that may be of interest to you:
Nature lovers/Hikers: Sierra Helada - recently declared a protected area,a mountain range 300m above sea level, sea cliffs. Fuentes del Algar - a natural beauty spot, waterfalls, access from Callosa den Saria village. Cactuslandia-botanical garden, private, dedicated to tropical plants, situated between Altea and Calpe. Salinas (salt flats) - nature reserve, albatrosses, herons, flamingos.
Adventure seekers/Families: Terra Mitica - theme park. Aqualandia Water Park (Benidorm)- name says it all! Mundomar Marine Exotic Animal Park. Elche Safari Park.
Sites of interest: Agost - small pottery manufacturing village. Cuevas de Canelobre - caves situated near town of Buscot. Jijona - famous for the making of Spanish nougat. Tabarca - island, travel by glass-bottomed catamarran. Alicante

Shoppers/city explorers: Santa Pola, Alicante (4th largest city in Spain), Torrevieja, Benidorm.
Gran Alacant / Monte Y Mar area
The apartment is placed on a rise in the land inbetween two cities - Santa Pola and Alicante. Fantastic beaches are a short drive away or 15 minute walk down hill, and a family-friendly pool is a 25metre walk away, complete with lifeguard in the summer months for the safety of your children. Located on your door-step is a restaurant or if you prefer to cook yourself a supermarket is a short walk from the front door. Walk to the road running through the development and either way will take you to a selection of cafes and restaurants that will cater for every taste from a fantastic Steak House to a Pizzeria. Fancy a picnic for the beach but having a lazy day? Hidden away between the apartments up the road you'll find a cafe that prepares mouth-watering baguettes for consumption on the beach.
It is an ideal destination if you want to escape from the realities of life but have the convenience of everyday living on your doorstep. Families, couples and groups of friends alike will enjoy the experience of having such a wide range of activities at their doorstep. For the ladies you have the shopping in the cities, and a stunning golf course for the gents just ten minutes away, or vice versa! Buses run into either city for just under 2 euros a person, where there is more to explore and activities like aquariums and places of interest to visit. Benidorm is but an hour away where a waterpark resides - a day of fun for the whole family! And for the clubbers amongst you, there is an outdoor club located on the coastal road to Santa Pola - expensive drinks but a great atmosphere, if you can find it!
Gran Alacant is mainly a residential area, made up mostly of villas, townhouses and apartments, ideal for families, and as a base for people wanting to travel further afield but with the comfort of a quiet urbanization to come back to. It is centrally based to two cities and lots of activities, but Gran Alacant itself has a lot to offer to people in the way of restaurants and bars, situated within a comfortable walk from the property.
Located amongst the properties you will find shops, a chemist, banks, bars, restaurants, cafes, and evening entertainment in the form of karaoke/discos - there is something to suit everybody. For those who want a more active evening, there are clubs to be found in Alicante, but be warned, the usual opening time for these is 1am! A 40 minute bus ride into either city will lead you to wide choice of restaurants to eat at - nothing can beat sitting at the harbour in Alicante enjoying a meal as you're serenaded by men playing guitars! The ultimate outdoor club is located on the coastal road from Gran Alacant, with a free bus service running either way to both cities. It is only open in the summer months from June until August but well worth a visit. The drinks can be expensive but the atmosphere and DJ are rated highly! Also worth a visit is Benidorm Palace, a fantastic night out with a 4 course meal (including wine) and a show, recommended by the locals as definite value for money.
I would recommend hiring a car to get full enjoyment from the holiday. Although not essential, it does help you visit more of the area so you are not limited by buses and your legs! The hill down to the beach can be steep coming back up, I wouldn't recommend people who are unfit or have difficulties walking taking this route. The beach is just over a mile away to walk.
How to get there
- Fly to Alicante, the property is just a ten minute drive from the airport. - Cheap flights available from Easyjet.co.uk / xl.com / britishairways.com, varies depending on when you book. - Car hire available from www.carjet.co.uk at reasonable prices. - There are always taxis available at the airport, fares tend to be around 20 euros, or i can arrange for you to be picked up for 15 euros.

There are also internet cafes dotted around which for a small fee allow you internet access while supping on a drink!
